Bhagat Singh Study Circle
Date: 7 June, 2026
Time: 3:30 PM
Topic: Manifesto of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association - Bhagat Singh, Kartar Singh
Bhagat Singh, twenty-three forever, a face that does not age, a body that does not outgrow the moment of its dying. The hat remains. The photograph remains. The rope, suspended in collective memory, remains. What is not allowed to remain is that in the quiet of his cell, he was busy undoing the world as it was given to him. Bhagat Singh came to Marx and Lenin as a young man trying to solve a problem that nationalism alone could not solve. He knew that the British would leave, but the landlords would remain. The moneylenders would remain. The industrialists, the clerks, the slow, grinding machinery that knows how to keep the poor exactly where they are—those would remain. Bhagat Singh was turning this over in his cell, still writing letters, still revising his thinking, still in the middle of working something out when they came for him. He refused, even at the cost of everything, to stop asking the questions.
In this study circle, we receive figures like Bhagat Singh whole—with their politics intact. We read. We argue with what we read. We look at the world we have been handed—the religion, the nationalism, the common sense of our time and place, and instead of accepting it as the shape of reality, we ask who has built it, and whose interests it serves, and what would have to be done for it to look different.
