🌟 CENTRE DIRECT | Empowering Peer Leaders, Building Healthier Communities | Health, WASH & Nutrition Training – Sasaram 💙

🤝 In Collaboration with: Welspun Foundation – Health for Knowledge (WFHK)

CENTRE DIRECT, with the support of Welspun Foundation – Health for Knowledge (WFHK), organized a one-day training programme for Peer Leaders at Patel Dharamshala, Sasaram.

👥 A total of 22 Peer Leaders from Mor, Bhadokhara, Belhar, Tarachandi and Medinipur villages participated in the training.

📚 Key Health Topics Covered: The training covered a range of important health and well-being topics, including WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene), Menstrual Hygiene Management, Malnutrition and Anemia, RTI/STI Awareness, Breast Cancer Awareness, and Cervical Cancer Awareness. The sessions focused on strengthening the knowledge and communication skills of Peer Leaders so they can effectively promote health, hygiene, nutrition and preventive healthcare practices within their communities.

🎤 During the training, Mr. Vishal Kumar, Trainer, facilitated interactive sessions and addressed participants’ queries while providing practical knowledge and skills to help them communicate important health messages effectively at the community level.

The programme was inaugurated by the Project Coordinator, who outlined the objectives and overall framework of the training. He encouraged Peer Leaders to share their learning with their respective communities and motivate families to adopt healthy, hygienic and safe lifestyle practices.

🤝 Mr. Syed Ragib from WFHK highlighted the important role of Peer Leaders in creating awareness and promoting positive behaviour change at the community level.

The successful implementation of the programme was supported by the valuable guidance of Programme Director Mr. Rajesh Ranjan and the dedicated contribution of all ORWs and MIS Mr. Govind Kumar.

🏢✨ CENTRE DIRECT | Vidya Maitri | Jehanabad District Review Meeting — Accelerating Girls’ Enrollment, Ensuring Quality Data & Empowering Girls Through Education ✨🏢

CENTRE DIRECT, under the Vidya Maitri Programme, conducted a district-level review meeting at the Jehanabad District Office to assess the progress of Maitri Vidya Cohort-5.

The meeting was chaired by State Programme Manager, Mr. Rajesh Ranjan, with the participation of all Field Coordinators and Block Supervisors. Key areas reviewed included girls’ enrollment, D2D contact, pending activities, data quality, reporting, and the upcoming action plan.

📊 Key Enrollment Status: Under Maitri Vidya Cohort-5, a total of 7,086 potential girls (Total Universe) were identified against an enrollment target of 3,500 girls. So far, 3,672 enrollment entries have been recorded, including 3,283 total quality enrollments and 3,093 quality enrollments. The achievement against the enrollment target stands at 88% in terms of quality enrollment, while the CV Error Rate is 14%.

During the meeting, District Coordinators Ms. Madhavi Kumari Verma and Mr. Pawan Kumar, along with Ms. Alpana Kumari (Block Supervisor) and the entire field team, were provided necessary guidance to accelerate girls’ enrollment and D2D contact, complete pending activities within the stipulated timeline, and ensure quality data collection and effective reporting.

🌿 One-Day Training & Action Planning Meeting on Child-Friendly and Women-Friendly Panchayats

On 1 September 2026, a one-day training and action planning meeting was organised at the District Panchayat Resource Centre, Gaya, in collaboration with the Panchayati Raj Department, Government of Bihar, focusing on LSDG Theme 1 and Theme 7.

The training brought together key stakeholders from Wazirganj and Tekari Blocks, including BPROs, BEAs, Accountants, Panchayat Secretaries and PEA/DEOs, along with representatives from Centre DIRECT Gaya and the Piramal Foundation.

Representing Centre DIRECT Gaya, Mr. Dinanath Maurya, Programme Manager, and Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rai, Convergence Expert, addressed the participants and facilitated discussions on various child protection issues, concerns and dimensions, along with the child protection activities being implemented across the district.

The sessions also focused on key aspects of Child-Friendly Panchayats and Women-Friendly Panchayats, including strengthening community-level protection mechanisms, promoting safe and inclusive Panchayat systems, and enhancing the role of different stakeholders in protecting children and supporting women.

Following the training, detailed discussions were held with the Panchayati Raj Department on upcoming activities, departmental roles and inter-departmental convergence. An action plan for future activities in Gaya district was also developed.

This initiative marks an important step towards strengthening Panchayats as child-friendly, women-friendly, safe, inclusive and responsive institutions.

One-Day PLV Training on Child Protection and Free Legal Aid in Darbhanga Division

Today (25-08-2026) Centre DIRECT, under the KAWACH Project, Darbhanga, organized a one-day training programme for 342 Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs) with the objective of strengthening the child protection system and ensuring effective access to justice and support for vulnerable children.

The programme was organized at the Auditorium, Polo Ground, Laheriasarai, Darbhanga. The training was attended by representatives from the District & Sessions Court, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), BLASA, UNICEF Patna, and other relevant departments and institutions.

The training focused on the identification of children at risk, protection and support mechanisms, and appropriate referral processes. PLVs were oriented on the roles of key child protection institutions, including CWC, DCPU, CWP, JJB and Child Helpline 1098, along with the importance of inter-departmental coordination. Special emphasis was also given to the role of PLVs in facilitating free legal aid for vulnerable and disadvantaged communities.

Under Mission Vatsalya, special emphasis was placed on ensuring the meaningful participation of children in Panchayat, Block and District-level Child Protection Committee meetings. PLVs were encouraged to actively participate in these meetings, support the mainstreaming of children, and facilitate their access to various government schemes and services.

One of the key highlights of the programme was an impactful street play presented by school-going adolescent girls on child rights and the rights of adolescent girls. Through their performance, the girls conveyed a strong message to PLVs to always stand for children's rights and remain committed to ensuring protection, justice and support for every child, particularly those at the last mile of society.

On this occasion, Abhijit De, Senior Programme Officer – State (Bihar), Kawach – COF, emphasized the importance of protecting children's rights, identifying children at risk, strengthening child review mechanisms, and continuously improving the government system for effective child protection.

The programme also received the valuable guidance and support of Shri Pramod Kumar Sharma, General Secretary, Centre DIRECT, whose continued guidance strengthens the organization's efforts towards child rights and protection.

Centre DIRECT – KAWACH Project, Darbhanga continues to work towards protecting children's rights, identifying and supporting children at risk, connecting vulnerable children with government services, and strengthening the overall child protection system.

The entire Centre DIRECT – KAWACH Project team participated in the programme, reaffirming its collective commitment to ensuring protection, justice, dignity and equal opportunities for every child.

🌿 Two-Day Residential Orientation Workshop on Child Protection & Mental Health Successfully Concluded

Centre DIRECT, under the KAWACH Project, organized a two-day residential orientation workshop on Child Protection and Mental Health for all CDPOs, ICDS District Team and concerned officials of Gaya District on 21–22 August 2026 at Sambodhi Resort, Bodh Gaya.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Rashmi Verma, District Programme Officer, through the traditional lighting of the lamp. DPM Jaymanti Sinha, along with CDPOs from all blocks of Gaya District, participated in the programme.

Key Focus Areas:
• Identification of vulnerable, deprived and at-risk children.
• Linking children with child protection systems and government schemes.
• Child rights and protection mechanisms.
• Mental health and emotional well-being of children.
• Early identification of mental health concerns and referral support.
• Counselling and psychosocial support for children.
• Strengthening coordination among departments and community-level protection systems.

The workshop emphasized that timely identification, protection, mental health support and access to government services for every vulnerable child is a shared responsibility.

Centre DIRECT’s Community Awareness Initiative
Health, Hygiene, Nutrition & Cancer Awareness

Sasaram(Rohtas) District, Bihar

Centre DIRECT, with the support of Welspun Foundation – Health for All, conducted a comprehensive community awareness campaign on health, hygiene, nutrition and cancer awareness under the Well Health, Well Leadership and Well Education Projects.

The campaign reached approximately 3,200 rural community members, adolescent girls, women, youth and other community members across 10 villages in Sasaram, Rohtas District. Through street plays (Nukkad Natak), community dialogues and awareness activities, the campaign addressed important health issues including hygiene, nutrition, anaemia, cervical and breast cancer, gender equality and other health-related concerns.

Community awareness programmes were organised in villages including Singhuri, Karup, Mor, Shivpur-Basantpur, Bhadoura, Kelhar, Nekaha, Hanumanpur, Dhankuta and Taradih. Using local language and simple communication methods, community members were encouraged to adopt regular handwashing, safe drinking water practices, improved sanitation and healthy hygiene behaviours.

During the campaign, community dialogues were conducted to understand people’s health-related concerns and questions. Community members were also encouraged to access appropriate health services and seek timely information and support.

Women and adolescent girls were sensitised on anaemia, cervical cancer and breast cancer, including awareness of early warning signs, the importance of timely health check-ups and the adoption of safe and healthy health practices.

The campaign received active support from Anganwadi workers, local elected representatives, community leaders and volunteers. Through community participation, the initiative promoted positive health behaviours and reinforced the message that health concerns should not be ignored and that timely care is essential.

The success of this initiative was strengthened by the guidance of Mr. Rajesh Ranjan, Programme Director, Centre DIRECT, along with the valuable contributions of project team members Anjali, Rita Devi, Mamta Kumari, Pammi Kumari, Kashmiri Kumari, Deepak Kumar and Govind Kumar.

Block-Level Child Welfare and Protection Committee Meeting – Chenari Block, Rohtas | BAT–KAWACH Project
On 22 August 2026, a Block-Level Child Welfare and Protection Committee meeting was organized in Chenari Block, Rohtas, under the chairpersonship of the Hon’ble Block Pramukh. The meeting was attended by the CDPO, Labour Enforcement Officer (LEO), Block Development Officer (BDO), Block Education Officer (BEO), Panchayat Mukhiya, BDC members, Pramukh, Up-Pramukh and other committee members.
The meeting focused on key issues related to child rights, child protection, education, child labour and child marriage, with emphasis on coordinated action for the safety and well-being of children. Ms. Savita from CENTRE DIRECT, under the BAT–KAWACH Project, along with Ms. Sangeeta Kumari, CDPO Chenari, discussed the structure and regular functioning of Child Protection Committees from the block to ward level and the effective implementation of government schemes in coordination with elected representatives.
Ms. Priyanka, BDO Chenari, discussed the importance of developing Child-Friendly Panchayats and Child Marriage-Free Panchayats and emphasized regular meetings with Panchayat Mukhiya at the Panchayat level. Mr. Kapil Dev, Labour Enforcement Officer (LEO), Chenari, highlighted the role of the Labour Department in the Child Protection Committee and briefed the members on relevant departmental schemes and initiatives.
System Strengthening under BAT–KAWACH Project
The meeting focused on strengthening the child protection system at the block, Panchayat and ward levels, ensuring the regular functioning of Child Protection Committees, improving inter-departmental convergence, strengthening community participation, and enhancing the capacity of local stakeholders to prevent and respond to child labour, child marriage and other child protection concerns.
The BAT–KAWACH Project, with the support of CENTRE DIRECT, continues to promote a strong, community-based and sustainable child protection system through awareness, capacity building, institutional strengthening and convergence with government departments and local institutions.
