We, the people of Silluk Village and the team of Swach Silluk Abhiyan (SSA), are truly honoured to receive this wonderful congratulatory letter from Shri Vinod Tawde , Hon’ble National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appreciating our journey and achievement of being featured in the CBSE Class 3 EVS textbook under the chapter “Taking Charge of Waste”

Your kind words mean a lot to our small village from East Siang, Arunachal Pradesh. From being once called “Gobar Basti” to now being recognized as India’s only government certified Zero Waste Village, our story is one of unity, hard work, and community spirit.

~ From “Gobar Basti” to a CBSE Chapter – Making Arunachal Proud ~

What began as a quiet rebellion in 2019 is now a national inspiration.
Once mockingly called “Gobar Basti" (P**p Village) because of open cattle rearing — where cows, goats, and pigs roamed freely and roads were submerged in knee-deep waste — Silluk Village in Arunachal Pradesh has rewritten its destiny.

It was then that Kepang Nong Borang, a determined local Adi (Tribe) youth, stood up and said enough is enough. With a vision for change and dignity, he founded the Swachh Silluk Abhiyan (SSA) — a grassroots movement that transformed Silluk into “India’s first government-recognised Zero Waste Village”.

Today, this journey has reached a historic milestone:
Silluk has been featured in the CBSE Class 3 EVS textbook (Chapter 12: Taking Charge of Waste), taking its message of sustainability and civic responsibility to classrooms across India 🇮🇳

This recognition is not just an achievement — it’s an honour for all of Arunachal Pradesh.

It reminds us that even the dirtiest path can lead to the cleanest future, when a community unites with purpose.

We, the SSA team, are ever grateful to everyone who walked this path with us.
