Rare Microblue moon to be visible

A rare phenomenon: Micro Blue Moon, will occur on the evening of 31 May 2026. A "Blue Moon" refers to the second full moon occurring within a calendar month and is a technical condition, while the term “Micro Moon” indicates that the Moon will appear slightly smaller than a usual full moon and is an astronomical phenomenon.

This is a condition exactly opposite to a Supermoon, when the full moon happens at the farthest point of
the Moon's monthly orbit at a point called the Apogee.

Further, this has coincided with the Full moon of the Intercallary or leap month of the Indian calendar, Adhik Jyestha poornima, which comes in the calendar once in 4 years.
Thus, all combined, such a sighing is extremely rare.
However, due to the prevailing monsoon like weather conditions and cloud cover, visibility of the moon may be hampered.

Members of the general public may observe the event with naked eyes, everywhere in Goa on their own without any instruments or telescopes.

An interactive Fun-Science session was conducted by Nmrah & Jerylnn on wonders of Earth, brainstorming on advanced astronomy concepts such as black holes, meteorites, and the life of astronauts.
The Icebreaker was also screened during the session, which kept the students engaged with the challenges faced in extreme conditions on Earth.

Super-Moon and Tides - 09-05-26
Dr Unnikrishnan, Retd. Scientist from NIO, delivered a lecture at AFA on Saturday, 9th May. He explained the dynamics of tidal forces with reference to Goa and around, which was quite interesting.
Program was attended by members and astronomy enthusiasts and ended with observation of planet Jupiter.
