The Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) strongly condemns the recent circular issued by the Directorate of Education, Government of Goa, which makes sweeping and unsubstantiated allegations against SIO while imposing restrictive conditions on interactions within educational institutions.
The circular labels SIO as an organisation “perceived to be potentially anti-social and anti-national in nature”. Such reckless characterisation of a lawful, nationwide student organisation is deeply irresponsible and violates the principles of natural justice.
SIO of India is a legally functioning student organisation with a public presence across the country. Our programmes and activities are conducted transparently in colleges, universities, and communities. Our work has consistently focused on educational empowerment, academic excellence, social responsibility, and democratic participation.
This circular represents an attack on democratic values, academic freedom, and freedom of expression guaranteed under the Constitution of India. Universities, colleges and schools flourish through open engagement with scholars, civil society organisations, professionals, and public intellectuals. Treating every external speaker, activist, or organisation as a potential threat undermines the very purpose of education.
We call upon the Government of Goa and the Directorate of Education to immediately withdraw the defamatory references to SIO and revoke the circular. Failing this, SIO will be compelled to pursue appropriate legal action to protect its constitutional rights and reputation.
