An engaging awareness session on “Juvenile Delinquency: From Risk to Rehabilitation” was conducted at Cuncolim Educational Society’s College of Arts & Commerce (CES) on 10 September 2026.

The session focused on understanding the factors contributing to juvenile delinquency, the importance of early intervention, and the role of rehabilitation in helping young people make positive choices and rebuild their future.

Together, let’s promote awareness, prevention, rehabilitation and second chances.

SCHOOL AUTHORITIES CANNOT “VERIFY” CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE, THEY MUST REPORT IT!

The Supreme Court’s judgment delivered on 9 July 2026 reinforces a critical responsibility under the POCSO Act, 2012: when information or a disclosure of child sexual abuse reaches a person in a position of trust, the law requires the matter to be reported to the police.

Schools and educational institutions play a vital role in protecting children. They must listen, believe, support and report, not conduct their own inquiry, question the child repeatedly, or attempt to determine whether an allegation is “true” before reporting.

Key message:
1. Mandatory reporting is a legal duty.Delay or failure to report can have serious legal consequences.
2. Child protection must take precedence over institutional reputation or internal handling.
3. Those with direct knowledge or information about an offence must follow the reporting obligations under POCSO.

Protecting a child begins with taking their disclosure seriously.

Strengthening Teachers, Protecting Children.

As part of the Safety First Campaign, SCAN-Goa conducted a training session on ‘Child Protection Laws & Safety Mechanisms in Goa’ for the secondary and higher secondary teachers of Sharada Mandir School, Miramar, on 24th August 2026.

The session focused on understanding child sexual abuse, recognising different forms of abuse, and strengthening teachers’ preparedness to respond to cases involving children. Through practical discussions, case-based illustrations and interactive learning, the teachers explored real-life scenarios and the legal responsibilities involved in safeguarding children.

The Safety First Campaign is an ongoing collaborative endeavour by SCAN-Goa, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), under the leadership of the Mayor of Panaji Shri Rohit Monserrate, and with the support of Equiknox India, working continuously to create greater awareness and strengthen community participation in the protection of women and children.

Awareness creates preparedness. Preparedness creates safer spaces.
