चंदौली स्कूल में कक्षा 5वीं के एक SLMC Team Member ने अपने Home Project के रूप में यह सुंदर और रचनात्मक Library/Reading Corner का मॉडल तैयार किया।

इस मॉडल में बच्चे ने अपनी कल्पना और उपलब्ध सामग्री का उपयोग करते हुए अलग-अलग हिस्सों को बहुत खूबसूरती से तैयार किया है। इस गतिविधि से उसकी Creativity, Imagination, Planning, Problem-Solving और Hands-on Learning जैसी क्षमताएँ सामने आती हैं।

सबसे खास बात यह है कि SLMC Team में शामिल होने के बाद बच्चे ने सीखने को केवल स्कूल तक सीमित न रखते हुए उसे अपने घर पर भी आगे बढ़ाया। यह पहल बच्चों की ownership, leadership और library के प्रति engagement को दर्शाती है।

एक छोटा सा Home Project, लेकिन सीखने और पहल करने की बड़ी मिसाल।

On 14 September, Varitra foundation celebrate Hindi Diwas, marking the adoption of Hindi in Devanagari script as the official language of the Union by the Constituent Assembly in 1949.

But Hindi had already been part of everyday life long before that — in conversations, songs, stories, markets and homes.

And then there is one word that seems to have travelled particularly well:

“नमस्ते।”

Perhaps one of the most recognisable Hindi/Indian words outside India, it has crossed borders, accents and languages. You don’t always need to hear it clearly — sometimes, two hands coming together are enough.

Did you know?

The highest literacy rate among Indian states is in Kerala — 93.91% !!

We use literacy in everyday moments - reading a road sign, checking the MRP and expiry date, understanding a calendar, following instructions, reading a message on the back of a truck or a poster on the street, filling out a form, taking measurements, and what not. UNESCO describes literacy as the ability to read and write with understanding a short, simple statement about everyday life.

A person may struggle to read a sign or form and still have skills learned through experience.

And this is where we see literacy growing into education at Varitra Foundation, creating safe spaces where children can explore, learn and take ownership of their learning journey.

This World Literacy Day, we celebrate the ability to read and write, and the possibilities that open up when learning becomes an experience.

At the Varitra Library, children explored what independence could mean through a film!!

They learnt about 15 August and India’s freedom, but then the word independent became something much closer to home.

“I’ll brush independently.”
“I’ll wear my clothes independently.”
“I’ll do my homework independently.”
“I’ll swing independently!”

And just like that, independence moved from a word in a lesson to something the children could see in themselves.

Because for a child, understanding a big idea can begin with something as simple as “I can do it myself.” 🇮🇳

Go through the world with open hands. Pick up the questions, mistakes, laughter, beautiful and difficult moments. Hold them long enough to understand them, or simply be willing to say, “I don’t know. Let’s find out.” And then put something back into the world: a story, an idea, a kinder way of doing something, a memory, a space where someone else can learn.

Discover it for yourself or take your time to arrive. :)

September 5 marks the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a scholar, philosopher, and teacher whose contribution to education continues to be remembered.

His birthday became a day to celebrate teachers across India.

Today, we celebrate the teachers who teach, guide, question, encourage, and keep learning along the way.

Varitra Foundation wishes all the teachers a very Happy Teachers’ Day! 🌱

From Savitribai Phule, who opened doors to education for girls, to the teachers walking into classrooms in rural government schools today, the idea of a teacher has always been bigger than a textbook. Savitribai Phule is recognised as a pioneer of women’s education and one of India’s first women teachers.

A teacher can be someone who teaches us, makes us curious, encourages us to try again, or reminds us that we are capable of more than we thought.

At Coffee with Teachers, peer learning space, we get to see another side of teachers—learning, experimenting, sharing ideas, laughing together and trying something new.

Because when learning happens, so much more happens alongside it—curiosity grows, ideas are exchanged, confidence finds space, and people learn from one another.

As we think about the teachers who have shaped education in India, we also think about the teachers shaping classrooms every day.

And perhaps, there is a teacher within each of us too. 🌱
