In 2013, there were a total of 256 deaths were reported as against 270 deaths in 2012, most of these being youth in the prime of their life. Apart from death there are scores who are injured. Both traffic related deaths and injury are a major threat to public health, well being of the population and progress and development of the state. To address these road safety problems, Akash Foundation has

conceptualized an unique “Youth Road Safety Programme”. Through this initiative we wish to create awareness about the extent of road accidents in Goa and death and injury caused therefrom; that these can be avoided through traffic and behavior regulation. This initiative also seeks to look at this phenomena of road accidents and youth deaths from two major perspective –1. From the perspective of the mother and her anguish when her son or daughter goes out on a vehicle and 2. That the traffic regulator –the traffic cop on the street is not an enemy, but a friend who helps you to be safe by following traffic rules and the travails and challenges he faces on a daily basis due to arrogant road users and how it sweats it out come rain or shine, for your safety. Aakash Foundation seeks to raise this awareness about the need for road safety across the educational institutions in Goa by making the youth stakeholders in their own safety and their future. The campaign involves, innovation, involvement, education and self help resulting in a sense of ownership of the road and their own safety.
