Sambhaavnaa Institute, nestled in a small village called Kandwari, in the lap of the mighty Dhauladhar mountain ranges in Himachal Pradesh, is an alternative learning and living space for those concerned with social and political change. Founded under aegis of the Kumud Bhushan Education Society in 2004 Sambhaavnaa’s main mission has been to nurture value-based leadership by encouraging individual

s, especially the youth; to discuss and develop a critical perspective on the ideals and ideas that define a just society. Since 2011-12, Sambhaavnaa has emerged as a platform for a wide variety of individuals and organisations to engage and reflect on processes of transformation challenging the injustice that prevails in the society today. Our vision and mission is to provide a platform for:

-Strengthening of resistance, political action and participation
-Supporting and working on creation of radical alternatives (across the socio-economic-political models/institutions)
-Bringing about personal transformation

Sambhaavnaa Institute with the above vision has created a learning and sharing space where programs and workshops are organised to:

– Facilitate reflection, collaboration, exchange and innovation in strategies and action amongst those engaged in transformative work
– Facilitate the building of a politically conscious citizenry especially youth
– Facilitate the process of personal transformation

Inviting applications for “Water Realities: Reimagining Sustainable Futures” - a 5-day workshop that interrogates water through the lens of power, justice, and resistance.

The workshop aims to critically examine how current policies and institutions around water are contested, and how they might be reimagined by centering grassroots perspectives and community knowledge.

If you’re someone who works on issues surrounding water- and are willing to imagine beyond top-down approaches and contribute to dialogue towards more equitable, democratic, and just water futures- this space is for you.

If you have been living in India over the past few months, stories about what is happening in the much-contested SIR process are hard to miss.

At the Safeguarding Electoral Democracy in India workshop held in March, participants and co-discussants unpacked these very concerns.

By placing the burden of registration and even proof of citizenship on citizens, the SIR is not just a revision but a fundamental shift in how India approaches its elections. Amid concerns over large-scale deletions and possible targeting of marginalised groups, it is becoming clear that this is not just a technical exercise but a reshaping of who gets to vote in the country.

The Buniyaad Summer Workshop is conceived as a space for political education and reflection for activists working in different parts of India. Many grassroots organisers work under intense conditions, responding to urgent issues within their communities. While this work is critical, it often leaves little time for collective reflection, theoretical engagement, or dialogue across movements. The workshop attempts to address this gap by creating a space where activists can pause and think together about the larger political, economic, and social structures shaping their work. Rather than 1 focusing on technical training, the workshop emphasises critical thinking, political analysis, and dialogue across different experiences. The 2026 edition of the workshop brought together participants engaged in a wide range of struggles including caste-based discrimination, labour organising, land rights, education, gender justice, democratic rights, and environmental issues. The diversity of participant experiences created a rich environment for discussion and learning. Over eleven days, the workshop included lectures by resource persons, participant discussions, physical practices, creative exercises, and collective reflections. Living together on campus also enabled informal conversations that often continued late into the evening, creating deeper connections among participants.
