Ottapalam Welfare Trust

Ottapalam Welfare Trust OWT serves the less privileged, with emphasis on women, children and elderly. The work at the Trust focuses on two key areas – healthcare and livelihood.

OWT is a charitable trust set up in 2001, by a small group of people from different walks of life, who came together with a common dream, of giving back to their community. Ottapalam is a scenic little town, located on the banks of the river Bharathapuzha in Palakkad district, Kerala. Ottapalam Welfare Trust (OWT) is based in this municipality, with its reach extending beyond Ottapalam, to the dis

tricts of Palakkad, Thrissur and Malappuram. In the area of livelihood, the Trust has made significant contributions to the community by extending microcredit to over 10,000 women through self -employment schemes. However, increasingly the emphasis has moved to providing accessible healthcare, and creating awareness on health issues. The growth of the Trust, its acceptance and credibility, can be credited to not just its work, but its ability to mobilise the community, bring in participation from local government bodies, volunteers, and the public at large. To meet the health needs of the people, OWT has a full fledged eye hospital, an early cancer detection programme, Palliative Care unit, and a clinical laboratory. OWT seeks support so that it can stand by its commitment to individuals and society. It has 80G exemption for donations in INR and an FCRA account for foreign nationals.
