LeadHERship 2025 Concludes with a Call for Collaboration and Empowerment

As the two-day National Women NGO Conclave LeadHERship 2025 concluded at Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, the Valedictory Session offered a reflective and inspiring close to the event. It began with a warm welcome address, followed by Dr. Sadaf Siraj, Associate Professor at Jamia Hamdardโ€™s Department of Management Studies, who presented a comprehensive recap of the sessions along with valuable participant feedback.

The Guest of Honour, Mr. T. Arif Ali, Chairman of Vision 2026, inspired the audience with insights from his humanitarian work in education and relief. He congratulated TWEET and Jamia Hamdard for organizing such an impactful conclave and shared his experience of promoting education in the villages of Haryana. Drawing from the Kerala model, he highlighted the vital link between economic empowerment and educational advancement. Mr. Arif Ali also remarked that as governments gradually withdraw from the social sector, NGOs must step forward to bridge the gap, before concluding with heartfelt appreciation for TWEETโ€™s efforts in organizing the conclave.

Chief Guest Ms. Abha Rani, Chairperson and Managing Director (CMD) of the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC), underscored the importance of networking and collaboration among NGOs. She urged participants to build strong partnerships and stay informed about government schemes to ensure that benefits reach grassroots communities.

In his presidential address, Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, commended the conclaveโ€™s interdisciplinary spirit and congratulated TWEET for creating a meaningful platform for dialogue on womenโ€™s empowerment.

The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Sharnas Muthu, Director of TWEET, who expressed gratitude to the guests, delegates, and organizing team, remarking that โ€œLeadHERship 2025 is just a beginning.โ€

Road Ahead โ€“ Reinventing Women-Led NGOs

The technical session on โ€œRoad Ahead: Reinventing Women-Led NGOs,โ€ chaired by Ms. Rahmathunnissa A, Chairperson of TWEET, explored strategies to strengthen women-led NGOs and promote inclusive development.

Ms. Abha Rani, Chairperson and Managing Director of the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC), highlighted the corporationโ€™s flagship schemes promoting financial inclusion and livelihood opportunities for minority women, noting that nearly 90 percent of its beneficiaries are women. She also spoke about the PM Vikas Scheme and NMDFCโ€™s new partnership with the State of Jharkhand, reaffirming its commitment to womenโ€™s self-reliance and empowerment.

Ms. Samina Bano, Founder and CEO of the RightWalk Foundation, shared her journey from corporate leadership to social entrepreneurship, emphasizing her work in implementing the Right to Education (RTE) Act in Uttar Pradesh, which has enabled over one lakh children to access education.

Adv. Sana Siddiqui, Executive Director of Multiple Action Research Group (MARG), underscored the importance of equality, fraternity, and โ€œinvisible leadership,โ€ urging women to assertively claim decision-making spaces while upholding dignity and self-agency.

Ms. Gargi Rawat, Senior News Anchor at NDTV, emphasized the role of communication and media in advancing womenโ€™s empowerment, encouraging women and NGOs to amplify their narratives through alternative media platforms while recalling the crucial role NGOs played during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The session concluded by reaffirming that women-led NGOs must embrace financial inclusion, education, rights-based advocacy, and strategic communication to drive equitable and sustainable change.

Technical Session: Building Legally Sound NGOs

The session on 'Building Legally Sound NGOs: Compliance, Governance and Transparency' was chaired by Adv. Sarvar Raza, Managing Partner at Legislegal, and featured CA Gulzar Karishma Malik, Dr. Sakhi John, and Mr. Noufal P.K., CEO of Human Welfare Foundation.

Adv. Raza emphasized that compliance safeguards NGOs and enhances credibility. CA Malik highlighted financial discipline, transparency, and the five pillars of good governanceโ€”Teamwork, Technology, Timeliness, Transparency, and Transformation.

Dr. Sakhi John discussed social barriers faced by women, citing successful models like Koosina Mane, ASHA, and Kudumbashree, and called for โ€œpatient capitalโ€ to empower women entrepreneurs.

Mr. Noufal stressed that sustainability depends on compliance, collaboration, and coalition-building, noting that transparency and governance are key to building trust among donors, beneficiaries, and institutions.

Technical Session: Fundraising for NGOs

The fourth session on 'Fundraising for NGOs' was moderated by Ms. Ayisha Shaikh and chaired by Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard. Speakers included Mr. Robin Thomas, Associate General Manager, HCL Foundation, and Mr. Sajid M., Director, Vision 2026.

Prof. Alam emphasized the importance of sustainable fundraising, statutory compliances like 12A, 80G, and NGO Darpan registration, and transparent auditing to build donor trust. He also highlighted opportunities in CSR and government schemes for NGOs.

Mr. Robin Thomas discussed NGOโ€“corporate collaborations, stressing measurable social outcomes and strong proposals addressing the โ€œFive Ws and One H.โ€ He noted that CSR agencies value both organizational capacity and proposal quality, with inclusivity and evaluation being key.

Mr. Sajid M. highlighted the role of branding, storytelling, and crowdfunding in fundraising success. He emphasized that visibility, credibility, and trust are the foundation of effective resource mobilizationโ€”โ€œBuilding trust is equal to building funds.โ€
