Born Peer Dastgeer Zaheer in Amritsar in 1919, Zaheer Kashmiri began writing poetry at age eleven and later earned a Master's degree in English. Relocating to Lahore before the partition, he built a career across literature, journalism, and cinema. Working as a poet and film screenwriter, he was actively associated with the Progressive Writers' Association. He edited the magazine 'Sawera', worked with the publication 'Masawat', and in 1959 began writing a daily column for 'Ehsaan' under the pen name "Majnu". Applying his craft to the screen, he wrote the story for and directed the movie 'Teen Phool'. Remembered for prominent Urdu poetry collections like 'Azmat-E-Aadam' and 'Taghazzul', he remained active in Lahore until his death on December 12, 1994.

How did the resting place of Khuda-e-Sukhan Mir Taqi Mir disappear?

After his passing in 1810, the celebrated poet was buried near Mashagunj in Lucknow. Today, railway tracks run directly over that exact spot. When the rail lines for the Lucknow City Station were laid, his grave was hidden beneath the development forever. Even a memorial plaque placed later outside the station failed to survive the changing city.
