🚨 JUST LAUNCHED — Phase 1 | IPC ↔ BNS Section Finder | Free Interactive Legal Reference Tool

Dear CYBER COPS India Community,

This is something I have been working on for our community — and I am proud to share that it is now live.

The Indian Penal Code, 1860 — which governed Indian criminal law for 163 years — was repealed on 1 July 2024. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 is now in force. And here is the problem that nobody is talking about loudly enough:
❌ Every single section number has changed.
❌ Courts and registries are returning filings with wrong citations.
❌ Police officers are citing repealed provisions in FIRs.
❌ Citizens have no idea what the section in their charge sheet actually means.
❌ Even experienced lawyers are cross-checking manually — section by section.

So I built something to fix this. For free. For every Indian.
🔍 IPC ↔ BNS Section Finder

What this tool does — in plain language:

You type any section number or keyword. The tool instantly shows you:
✅ The old IPC section and what it covered
✅ The new BNS equivalent section
✅ The punishment range — minimum, maximum, fine amount
✅ Whether the offence is Non-Bailable (bail only from court) or Bailable (bail from police station)
✅ Whether police can arrest without a warrant (Cognizable) or need one (Non-Cognizable)
✅ Whether Community Service is available as an alternative punishment
✅ What changed, what is new, and what has been omitted

Three ways to search:
🔴 By IPC Section Number — type 302, 420, 498A, 376 — get the BNS equivalent instantly
🔵 By BNS Section Number — type 103, 318, 85, 64 — trace it back to the IPC
🟢 By Keyword — type "murder", "r**e", "dowry", "cheating", "forgery", "bail" — all matching provisions appear in one flat table

7 instant filters:
🔴 Non-Bailable | 🟢 Bailable | 🔵 Community Service Available | New in BNS | Changed | Omitted | All Sections

What is mapped:
📊 142 sections verified against the BNS 2023 bare act (Act 45 of 2023)
⚖️ General Exceptions fully mapped — private defence, insanity defence, consent, duress, necessity (IPC §§76–103 including the frequently searched §91)
🆕 10 new BNS provisions with no IPC equivalent — including mob lynching (§103(2)), organised crime (§111), and terrorism (§113)
🗑️ Omitted sections clearly marked — including §377 (Navtej Singh Johar, 2018) and §497 (Joseph Shine, 2018)

This is not a legal opinion.

It is a free public resource — because in a country of 1.4 billion people, access to clear legal information should not depend on who you can afford to call.

More upgrades are coming in future phases.

If this helps even one person understand their FIR, their charge sheet, or their case — the work was worth it.

📢 CYBER COPS India

⚖️ Contract Act, DPDP Act

Important for every Indian parent 👇

Schools have been telling parents that APAAR ID is *mandatory*. It is not.

The Government of India's own official response confirms it is voluntary. CBSE has a formal provision where parents can refuse and the school simply marks it as 'REFUSED' in the system — your child's board exam registration is not affected.

But here's what worries me as a cybersecurity and privacy professional:

The APAAR consent form allows your child's Name, Date of Birth, Address, and Photograph to be shared with — among others — private recruitment agencies. With no defined oversight over how those agencies handle that data.

In an era of AI-generated deepfakes, a verified photograph of a minor linked to their Aadhaar identity is not a small thing to hand over.

I've put together a comprehensive guide that covers everything — the genuine benefits of APAAR (yes, there are real ones), a technical analysis of the government's security claims, the legal position under the DPDP Act and Supreme Court judgments, and a ready-to-use written refusal template if you choose not to consent.

This isn't about being anti-technology. It's about making sure every parent signs — or doesn't sign — with full information.

What happens if ₹50,000 disappears from your bank account due to a digital fraud?

Today, customers often struggle to recover the loss. But a new RBI draft amendment could change that starting July 2026.

The proposal may introduce automatic compensation for certain fraud cases, redefine customer liability, and shift more accountability onto banks to prove negligence.

If implemented, this could significantly reshape how banking fraud complaints and reimbursements are handled in India.

I’ve broken down the key changes, real implications for customers, and what banks may need to prepare for.
