The Blind Relief Association Delhi

The Blind Relief Association Delhi Established in the year 1944, the Blind Relief Association, Delhi is a premier non-governmental organization in the country serving the visually impaired.

Over the last 69 years of its existence the Association has built up a complex of services managed by professional and skilled staff. In its green campus located prominently in the heart of national capital city of New Delhi, the Association is providing quality school education and conducting training programmes to prepare teachers for the visually impaired; running a range of vocational training

courses in light engineering and other industrial trades; imparting training in diverse skills kile bookbinding and paper craft, relaxation massage etc; besides conducting computer literacy training programmes for the visually challenged. The Association also provides counselling and direct help in employment to the visually impaired. There are other services like as production of books in Braille and audio format which are provided to the visually challenged either free or at nominal cost. The campus also has a hostel which houses nearly 300 children and adult students and trainees. The Association is constantly striving to ensure that persons with physical disability, especially the blind, are not marginalized due to physical impairment, and are rightfully integrated into the mainstream community as equal and useful members of society.

The Blind Relief Association, Delhi hosted an insightful workshop on Child Protection and Body Safety in collaboration with Parwarish Care Foundation on June 6. Facilitated by Ms. Shruti Dalela and her team, the session engaged residential staff and caregivers in discussions on body autonomy, consent, personal boundaries, child protection, and the provisions of the POCSO Act.

Through interactive activities and reflective conversations, participants gained valuable insights into recognizing signs of distress, fostering open communication, and strengthening their role in ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of every child.

A heartfelt farewell was organised on 30th May to honour Mr. Ashok Kumar on his retirement as Principal of Jormal Periwal Memorial Senior Secondary School for the Blind.

Mr. Ashok Kumar's remarkable journey with the institution began in 1992 when he joined as a TGT teacher. Through years of dedicated service, sincerity, and unwavering commitment to the education and empowerment of visually impaired students, he was promoted as Vice Principal in 2023 and subsequently assumed the role of Principal in 2026.

Known for his calm demeanour, humility, and dedication to duty, Mr. Ashok Kumar has left an enduring impact on generations of students and colleagues alike. The farewell ceremony was graced by Executive Secretary Mr. David Absalom, Advisor Mr. K.C. Pande, Deputy Executive Secretary Mr. C.P. Mohanan, and Trustee Ms. Beenu Nath.

Many of Mr. Ashok Kumar's former students joined the gathering to express their gratitude and share cherished memories. Gifts and tokens of appreciation were presented on behalf of the Blind Relief Association, Delhi, the JPM School staff, and his students as a tribute to his years of selfless service.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes to Mr. Ashok Kumar for good health, happiness, and continued success.

The Remedial Classes at Jormal Periwal Memorial Senior Secondary School for the Blind, run by the Blind Relief Association, came to a joyful close with a heartfelt farewell celebration on 29th May.

Held from 4th to 29th May, the classes provided students with an opportunity to learn, explore, and express themselves through activities such as poetry, art, recitation, and much more. The sessions were made possible through the dedicated efforts of volunteers from Amity University's Integrated B.Ed. Special Education programme, who mentored and encouraged the students throughout the month.

On the final day, the students took centre stage and beautifully showcased all that they had learned. Their performances won the hearts of the audience. The event was graced by Mr. David Absalom, Executive Secretary, Mr. C. P. Mohanan, Deputy Executive Secretary, and Ms. Benu Nath, Trustee, whose presence made the occasion even more special. As a token of encouragement, the students were also presented with cricket kits, adding to the joy and excitement of the celebration.
