The Antara Foundation’s mission is to support the public health system deliver solutions at scale, to improve maternal and child health outcomes, by partnering with government and communities. Treating scaled delivery as the missing technology is The Antara Foundation’s ’big bold idea’ wherein state programs become a benchmark for improving health outcomes that can be amplified nationwide. The Ant

ara Foundation's current programs focus on Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition. The rationale to address maternal and child health goes beyond improving and saving lives. Better health outcomes for a country have a broader economic impact by contributing to poverty alleviation and economic growth. The Antara Foundation was founded by Ashok Alexander based on his experience leading the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in India where he spearhead a program (Avahan) that would stem the growing HIV epidemic in India. Experiences over a decade with the Gates Foundation helped him appreciate the complexity of public health delivery in India and drivers of scale. These crucial insights helped shape the idea of The Antara Foundation.

Sangeeta was the first girl in her village to step out for an education and get a government job.

Today, she serves as a Community Health Officer in Betul, Madhya Pradesh, at the frontlines of public health. From encouraging women to seek health services to supporting them through pregnancy, her work is helping more families access care and shifting perceptions around what women can do and become.

Her story reflects how change often begins: when one woman takes a step forward and a whole community begins to imagine new possibilities.

This international Women’s Day, we are reminded that progress is rarely shaped by a single moment, but through years of determination and everyday acts that move our nation forward.

In Tendukheda block, Damoh, many high-risk newborns were at risk of falling through the cracks. Crucial health updates about newborns often didn’t travel beyond individual health facilities, which meant frontline workers and supervisors couldn’t always respond quickly when families needed help.

Through our initiative, ANUGAMI, a new chapter of responsive newborn care is unfolding.

Today, high-risk newborns are tracked in real time, supervisors are alerted immediately, and coordinated action happens faster than ever before. Health workers and block officials now operate as one connected network; ensuring that referrals are timely, decisions are informed, and families receive clearer support during critical moments.

What stands out most is not just improved systems but the human commitment behind them. Supervisors stepping in even late at night. Frontline workers feeling supported in complex decisions. Families gaining confidence because help arrives when it matters most.

We are grateful to Infosys Foundation for their collaboration on this journey. Enabled by their support, our team is working closely with the district administration to augment ongoing efforts to bridge care gaps in measurable and meaningful ways. We are deeply thankful to the district leadership for their continued guidance and appreciate the proactive engagement of block officials who are translating intent into action on the ground.

Because often, saving lives begins with something simple yet profoundly impactful: ensuring the right message reaches the right person at the right time, so every mother and child get the care they deserve.

We’re honoured to have received the Promising Innovation Award at the INFUSE Summit organised by , Hyderabad, for our AI-powered health companion designed to support Community Health Workers ( ).

Our health companion was built on a simple belief: that ASHAs, ANMs, and Anganwadi workers deserve instant, reliable, and contextual guidance—in their own language—to do their work with confidence.

Our vision is to help shape public health infrastructure that truly works for the frontline—where strengthens human judgment, not replaces it.

With the right collaborations, such tools can become trusted conduits of scientific knowledge, reaching millions of women, children, and over 2 million frontline workers across the country.

We look forward to building this journey, alongside like-minded partners, to make last-mile health and nutrition guidance scientifically robust, inclusive, and scalable.

Progress often doesn’t announce itself. Sometimes it emerges quietly, through patience, understanding, and deep listening.

In this blog by Tarini Mohan, we reflect on how frontline health workers, community influencers, and persistence, rather than confrontation, shifted what looked like in one village in Madhya Pradesh.

It’s a reminder that strengthening health systems is as much about trust and empathy as it is about and design.
