Every minute, every hour, every day, food is being wasted at a scale that is difficult to grasp. Over 1 billion are thrown away daily, even as millions continue to face hunger. What is lost is not just food, but also the energy, water, and labour that went into producing it, along with the that follow when it ends up in .
India already has the solutions. From composting systems to and bioCNG, the science and infrastructure to recover value from waste have existed and continue to expand.
But without segregation, these systems do not work.
At this is where our work begins. Over the years, we have focused on building this behaviour at scale through sustained engagement rather than one-time interventions. This has taken the form of practical guides on and , bilingual curricula adopted by over 100 schools globally, and more recently, digital tools and designed to make waste literacy accessible and intuitive from an early age.
These may seem like small steps, but they are aimed at something larger. Systems can be built and infrastructure can expand, but unless behaviour keeps pace, the gap will remain.
The starting point is simple.
Segregate at source.
