Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to announce the launch of the Rural WONCA Fund for Leadership, Innovation, Global Health, and Travel (FLIGHT) Grant.

This program supports medical students and young family doctors with a demonstrated commitment to rural health to undertake experiential learning in a rural clinical setting and critically evaluate a rural health service model.

The Award

Funding: USD $1,000 each to support travel and accommodation of 2 candidates.

Note: Funding will be disbursed following placement approval and acceptance of the final written report.

Conference: Complimentary registration for the Rural WONCA Conference/Global Rural Health Summit.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

A WONCA Young Doctor (in family medicine training or within the first five years of independent practice); OR

A medical student with a demonstrable commitment to rural health.

Program Requirements

Recipients are required to:

Complete upto 5-day rural placement at a pre-approved site immediately prior to the conference.

Submit a comprehensive written report including:

Description of the rural health model.

Critical review and strengths/limitations.

Policy analysis and implications.

Recommendations for adaptation or scale-up.

Deliver a mandatory oral or poster presentation at the coinciding Rural WONCA Conference or Global Rural Health Summit.

The year gone by has been one of purposeful action—strengthening advocacy for Family Medicine, expanding academic initiatives, nurturing young leaders, and reinforcing AFPI’s voice at state, national, and international platforms. These achievements reflect your commitment, resilience, and collective spirit.

As we step into the new year, let us renew our resolve to advance comprehensive, person-centred primary care and position Family Medicine at the heart of India’s health system. Wishing you and your families a year of good health, professional fulfillment, and shared success.

Dear Members,
On this special occasion of National Family Medicine Day, PLEASE ACCEPT MY WARMEST GREETINGS.
Family Medicine is more than just a medical specialty-it is a philosophy of care. We are the first point of contact for individuals and families, walking with them through every stage of life. Today’s theme “Your Family Doctor, Your Partner in Preventive Care”rightly highlights prevention as the cornerstone of our practice. As family doctors, we do not merely treat illnesses; we focus on keeping people healthy, empowering them with knowledge, and preventing disease before it takes root.

As we celebrate today, I wish to pay a heartfelt tribute to the founding leaders of the Academy of Family Physicians of India (AFPI). Their vision and commitment laid the foundation on which we continue to build. It is fitting that this day also marks AFPI Foundation Day, reminding us that we stand on the shoulders of all our founding leaders who believed in the transformative power of Family Medicine for India.

On this day, let us renew our commitment—to prevention, to holistic care, and to the enduring bond between the family doctor and the family. Together, we can ensure that the vision of healthier families and healthier communities becomes a reality.

As we all know we celebrate this day as - National Family Medicine Day (NFMD).

This year the foundation day is being celebrated across India by various state chapters. Several events are being organised to mark NFMD.

This year we are focusing to disseminate the need of incorporating Family Medicine during MBBS course at all medical colleges in India.
