🌊 When dialogue meets depth — a ‘Chaupal’ for the Indo-Pacific.

At , “Chaupal ki Charcha” embodies the spirit of open, honest, and intellectually rich maritime dialogue — mirroring India’s traditional village discussions where every voice shapes the collective wisdom. It brings together global perspectives to navigate the Indo-Pacific’s complex strategic waters through conversation, collaboration, and shared vision.

VAdm Pradeep Chauhan, DG NMF, hosts this special session with His Excellency Dr Philipp Ackermann, German Ambassador to India and Bhutan; His Excellency Mr Indra Mani Pandey, Secretary-General, BIMSTEC; Vice Admiral (Ms) Anne Cullere, FN (Retd), Sciences Po (Le Havre Campus), France; and Capt Geordie Klein, Defence Attaché of the Netherlands for India, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka.

The session concluded with the release of “Maritime Perspectives: A Sweep Across the Indo-Pacific”, edited by VAdm Pradeep Chauhan and Ms Anuttama Banerji, Research Associate, NMF— a publication that captures the evolving contours of Indo-Pacific cooperation through scholarly insight and strategic foresight.

🌍 Beneath the waves lie cables, culture, and contested resources… who owns the deep?
At LAWSEA 2025 – the Inaugural NMF–KAS International Seminar on Public International Maritime Law (PIML), Professional Session Three will explore “Undersea and Seabed Resources and Infrastructure: Legal Issues.”

🗣️ Dr Madhumita Kothari, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, and Former Senior Advisor, International Seabed Authority, will moderate the session.

Mr Soham Agarwal, Associate Fellow, NMF, will speak on the legal issues surrounding the protection of undersea cables.

Capt Himadri Das, IN, Senior Defence Specialist, will address the regulation of IUU fishing and whether we are part of the problem or the solution.

Dr Srinivas Burra, Associate Professor, South Asian University, will present on UNESCO’s approach to the legal challenges of underwater cultural heritage in South Asia.

🌊Pleased to share that Dr Chime Youdon, Head of the Resilient and Sustainable Ocean Regions (RSOR) Cluster at the National Maritime Foundation (NMF), has successfully completed the prestigious Comprehensive Security Course (CSC) at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) in Honolulu, Hawaii 🇺🇸.

The course brought together 102 diplomats, security professionals, and scholars from 40 Indo-Pacific nations 🌏, fostering strategic dialogue on issues from maritime security to sustainable development and regional stability 🌱⚓.

Dr Youdon’s participation reaffirms NMF’s commitment to strengthening India’s role in shaping a secure, resilient, and sustainable Indo-Pacific.
