Monica Dhaka's New Exhibition Before You See the Scars will be opening in the Academy of Fine Arts and Literature from 7th of August to the 9th.
Please come and see it and support the incredible women.
Before You See the Scar is a visual art project created in close collaboration with 18 acid attack survivors associated with the Brave Souls Foundation in Delhi. The project begins with a central question: Who do we choose to see first—the woman or the scar?
When an acid attack survivor enters a public space, people may stare or turn away. Although these reactions appear different, both can stop at the surface: the scar is noticed, but the woman herself remains unseen.
Developed through direct conversations with the participating women, the exhibition brings together close-up photographs of scarred skin, digitally constructed patterns, skin landscapes, black-and-white portraits, and the women’s own words. Through mirroring, repetition, abstraction, and portraiture, Dhaka explores how a scar can be represented without allowing it to define the person who carries it.

From fire to form… ✨

Every bronze sculpture begins as nothing more than a simple lump of clay—an idea shaped by hands, patience, and countless unseen hours. Then comes the most magical moment… molten metal breathing life into a mould, transforming imagination into something that can outlive generations.

For me, this journey has always been more beautiful than the destination. Every sculpture carries the memory of every touch, every decision, every flame.

If you've ever wanted to experience the joy of creating something timeless with your own hands, my studio doors are always open.
