A significant shift is underway in Punjab‼️

After nearly four decades, the state’s art curriculum and textbooks are being upgraded. 📈 This shift comes through a long-term collaboration between SCERT Punjab and Slam Out Loud, built over years of working alongside teachers, mentors, and the public education system.

🌻 Punjab has constituted a state-level Art Committee, a first of its kind in India to guide this curriculum process. Instead of rewriting textbooks from a distance, the curriculum will be shaped with practicing art mentors and educators... people who know classrooms, constraints, and children’s realities firsthand.

To support clarity and consistency across the process, a Core Committee has been constituted. This group includes art education experts from colleges and institutions, alongside the Slam Out Loud team, and is responsible for guiding the Working Committee and holding the larger curricular vision and decisions.

🎯 The aim is clear: bring local culture, regional art forms, and contemporary pedagogical thinking back into how art is taught, while aligning with the National and State Curriculum Frameworks. Art is being recognised not as an “extra,” but as a vital way children learn to think, feel, imagine, and connect.

This moment reflects years of groundwork, trust-building, and belief that art belongs at the heart of public education. The work ahead is serious, collective, and long overdue... and it has now officially begun.

Young Jamini filled his world with the fragrance, colours, and lines of the land he grew up in — drawing to make sense of an ever-changing world, even when told to stop. He always knew what he wanted to do.

Because freedom isn’t just flags in the wind or parades in the street — it’s the small, unbroken lines a child draws, and the fearless colours they spill beyond the edges. 🖍️

So, this Independence Day, let’s protect that freedom. Every child deserves the space to create — bold, unbroken, and free.🌱

Discover his journey above featuring the book Jamini Roy’s Unbroken Lines — written by Vinitha and illustrated by Tanvi Bhat, published by Art1st — a vibrant introduction to Jamini Roy’s art and life for young readers.

Digital Saathi has officially launched in Muzaffarpur! 🎉

“We are thrilled to be initiating Digital Saathi in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, in collaboration with the local government. Building adolescents’ digital literacy skills encourages them to imagine different possibilities and shape their own future in a world that is increasingly reliant on digital tools. By showing them how digital platforms can be leveraged for learning, self-expression, and staying safe online, we are helping them navigate the digital world with confidence.”
— Richa Hingorani, Director, Global Programs, Girl Rising

With 100+ government teachers now trained, 45,000 students across four blocks will soon begin learning through India’s first SEL-integrated digital literacy curriculum.

A big thank you to the incredible Girl Rising team, the District Education Office, and all partners who made this vision come alive. Together, we’re building classrooms where curiosity meets critical thinking ~ and emotional wisdom powers digital learning. 💙

Across 1,044 schools in Punjab, something quietly powerful happened. Students stood up to sing, paint, perform, and be heard. 🎨✨

This was Project Aawaaz: a collaboration between Slam Out Loud and SCERT Punjab, designed to bring arts-based social-emotional learning (SEL) into classrooms, not just as a subject but as a language of expression. From poetry to theatre, from posters on climate change to Bhangra about belonging, students turned everyday school spaces into stages of courage. 💛

📸👉 Swipe right to see how imagination came alive, on every wall, stage, and smile.

This movement wasn’t built in a day, it’s built every time a child picks up a paintbrush, every time a teacher makes room for imagination.
