the world’s first Polio Chowk
On February 23rd, 2013, the world’s first Polio Chowk was unveiled in Moradabad. Historically, the Moradabad district was the hub of poliovirus circulation. But with a strong partnership among government and non-government organizations – CORE group, UNICEF, Rotary, WHO – along with joint efforts by the Moradabad health department and community members, polio has been eradicated in the Moradabad district, as no cases of polio has been reported in 2012. To celebrate this milestone, the polio partners wished to construct a Polio Chowk.
