At 23, Preeti* stands as a confident, self-reliant young professional- her journey shaped by years of care, guidance, and meaningful opportunities.

She came into our care at SOS Children’s Village in Kolkata, when she was just one year old. Raised by a devoted SOS Mother, Preeti grew up in a safe and nurturing home that fostered her emotional well-being and holistic development.

With access to nutrition, education, healthcare, and psychosocial support, Preeti discovered her strengths and aspirations. Through career counselling, English communication training, and a certification in Medical Laboratory Technology, she gained the skills and confidence to step into the workforce.

Through Project Nurture, under Indus Towers Limited’s flagship CSR program, Saksham, Preeti’s story highlights the impact of long-term care and opportunity.

Today, she is independent and empowered, living proof that consistent support can change the course of a child’s life.

In the heart of the Monday weekly market in Poynad village, Raigad, Lata* stands proudly at her artificial jewellery stall, a small scale business that represents far more than just accessories. Only a few years ago, her family faced a mountain of uncertainty; with her husband’s unstable income as an auto-rickshaw driver and the heavy medical expenses for her paralyzed father-in-law, their monthly income of ₹5,000 barely covered the basics. The dream of a stable education for her children, felt like an uphill battle until Lata joined our Family Strengthening Programme.

Through Mastek Foundation, Lata was empowered with a livelihood grant to launch her jewellery business, but the support went much deeper than financial aid. She participated in intensive entrepreneurship and parenting workshops, gaining the skills to manage her finances and the confidence to actively guide her children’s education. Today, she doesn't just provide for her family; she sits with her son, helping him excel in his studies and remedial coaching, while her daughter prepares for her 10th-grade board exams.

The transformation is profound: the family has seen a 200% increase in monthly income, moving from survival to stability. But the true impact lies in the future Lata is now able to provide. Her children are no longer just attending school; they are dreaming of professional careers in the science field. We are incredibly proud to partner with Mastek Foundation to give mothers like Lata the tools to break the cycle of poverty and build a legacy of independence for the next generation.

We believe that when a woman gives her heart to a child, a whole generation gains a future. This International Women’s Day, we are celebrating the profound power of "Give to Gain."

It is the start of a chain reaction that will transform families, communities, and futures.

Her love isn't just biological; it’s logical.

She gives her courage, and they gain a lifetime of stability. She gives her presence, and they gain the power to believe. She gives her care, and a community gains a future doctor, a mother, or a leader.

When you , you aren't just giving. You are starting a legacy!

We are proud to share that SOS Children’s Villages India; National Office and 32 programme locations have received Level 1 Certification from Keeping Children Safe (KCS) for meeting the International Child Safeguarding Standards.

This certification follows a rigorous process of self-assessment, evidence review, and independent validation. It affirms that we not only have strong safeguarding policies and guidelines in place, but that we are implementing them in both letter and spirit across our programmes.

Safeguarding children is not a statement of intent. It is a responsibility embedded in systems, culture, and everyday practice.

The internationally recognised KCS kite mark signals to children, families, partners, and donors that safeguarding at SOS India is structured, accountable, and continuously strengthened.

For us, this is more than recognition. It is a reaffirmation of our commitment to ensuring that every child grows up in a safe and protective environment.

A girl doesn’t need to be told how far she can go.
She needs safety. She needs care. She needs belief.

When a girl grows up protected and supported, she learns to trust her voice, take her first steps forward, and eventually, find her wings.

On National Girl Child Day, we’re reminded that empowerment begins with everyday actions that ensure every girl is safe, nurtured, educated, and given the freedom to become who she chooses to be. Because when care comes first, confidence follows.

And when a girl is supported, she doesn’t just walk forward; she flies.

For many children, board exams don’t just bring questions. They bring sleepless nights, silent fear, and overwhelming pressure.

For vulnerable children growing up without consistent academic or emotional support, this stress can feel unbearable.

No child should face this alone. With the right care, guidance, and encouragement, children can face exams with confidence, not fear.

You can be that support!

Strengthening Government Partnerships in Maharashtra!

Our Children’s Village in Alibag has received the official license to care for 100 children (50 boys and 50 girls) through a 5-year partnership with the Government of Maharashtra in alignment with the JJ Act. We are happy to share that this is the first time we are entering into a fully funded Government partnership in Maharashtra.

500 km east from Alibag, our Children’s Village in Latur has renewed its commitment to care for children and the District Administration have started placing children under our Family Like Care Programme, showcasing the trust the Government has placed on us in caring for vulnerable and parentless children.

These new partnerships, along with our recent collaboration with the Commissionerate of Women & Child Development to skill and empower 250 youth in Pune, enabling children and youth towards self-reliance through our Vocational Training Centre and Mobile Digital Learning Centre in Pune, reflect the growing confidence the Government of Maharashtra places in SOS Children’s Villages India as a trusted childcare partner.

Together, we continue to build pathways of care, education, and opportunity for vulnerable children and young people across the state.

Another powerful step towards ensuring that every child grows up in a loving family environment!

We are delighted to announce a landmark partnership with the Department of Women and Child Development (Government of NCT of Delhi).

Through this five-year collaboration under the Kinship Care Programme, 350 children without parental care in Delhi will receive sustained support to grow up in the safety, warmth, and belonging of their extended families.

The MoU was signed by Smt. Mitali Namchoom, IAS, Director, Department of Women and Child Development, GNCT of Delhi, and Sumanta Kar, CEO, SOS Children’s Villages India, marking a shared commitment to strengthening the child protection ecosystem and promoting family-based care.

As part of this initiative, we will work hand-in-hand with the Department of Women and Child Development to ensure every child’s holistic development, focusing on education, health, emotional well-being, and life skills, empowering them to become confident, self-reliant individuals.

The safety and well-being of every child remain at the heart of everything we do. Taking this commitment forward, an interactive and impactful session on CPR and First Aid during choking was recently conducted under a joint initiative of our Family Strengthening (FS) and Family Like Care (FL) programmes at Children’s Village Greenfields.

Specially organised for our co-workers and administrative staff, who engage with children every day, the session combined expert instruction with hands-on practice.

The trainer emphasised that during cardiac arrest, only timely and correct CPR can save a life, yet 99% of the time it’s performed incorrectly, highlighting the critical need for such training. Participants learned and practiced CPR and choking relief techniques using mannequins, making the session practical, engaging, and deeply insightful.

This initiative was an investment in preparedness, confidence, and care, ensuring our teams are equipped to respond effectively in emergencies.
