KRITI Film Club - offers thought-provoking cinema in a discussion group format to deepen understandings on social, development, environment and human rights issues among viewers and film makers. It is an attempt to create an informal and educational space where students, activists, academicians, development professionals, media professionals and friends can come together and interact, through meaningful cinema. Enhancing access to such films beyond single shows and festivals is a core objective of the film club. Screening documentaries and relevant mainstream films regularly, once or twice a month since 2000...

Public Education events - that mark and celebrate socially relevant days through a awareness and mobilization programming and activities. We curate and organize issue based festivals and events, that are based on performing or visual arts, and documentary films. Workshops, organisational interactions and sharing resources to engage creatively around a diverse range of rights based issues and mark their significance in a collective spirit, is part of this mission.

The monsoon premieres of Pehli Tareekh and Memories of a Kiss on 24 July opened up much more than conversations about the films.

They opened up people. An evening where audience across genders spoke about the highs and lows of relationships, love and friendship; marriage and the choice of no marriage; intimacy and belonging; ambitions, compromises, loneliness, companionship and the many ways we make sense of our lives and each other. There was laughter, recognition, disagreement and a fair amount of honesty.

An evening with four directors, actors and crew and an audience that questioned, shared, listened and took their moments of silence.

It’s such evenings that make Kriti Film Club reveal itself…with the real magic of cinema that gives us the courage to talk about ourselves.

Thank you to all.

On the evening of celebrating protest victories, a diverse old and young audience came together in full house to witness the trajectory of India’s history through the lens of Raghu Rai, with his daughter behind the moving camera. In the words of one viewer “his images captured the essence of India”. As the film’s director, Avani Rai, told the story in her father’s language, the journey unfolded their deep bonds so beautifully, alongside their relationship with their respective cameras, and the frames they captured.

With Avani stuck in traffic getting out from central Delhi, we took her on mobile call in an impromtu decision which brought so much depth and light among the audience as she shared the process and her voice to the film once again.

Some snippets here, and the rest we brought home with us. Thank you to everyone who came, to the Kriti Film Club volunteers and team, Muskan, Karan, Lata, Umesh and Kritika; and the venue partners India Habitat Centre.

Time for some pending wrap up posts on screenings held in the last few months! Starting backwards with the most recent one!

Last week in Mumbai, an evening with real people off the screen where they play body doubles…actors in their own amazing right! Sharing, reflecting, laughing and also caring for lives and dreams…fulfilled and unfulfilled yet.

Urf, a film crafted with so much love and sensitivity by Geetika Narang Abbasi and team…

A film that was difficult to face at first said the protagonists, as it was about ‘them’ and they had to stop acting!

Thank you Kishore ji, Heta and Karan for such a warm and candid interaction. Thanks to the venue, the audience and the film team for hosting, engaging and telling these ‘invisible’ stories and bringing the people alive outside of the screen!

The 7th Beyond Borders Feminist Film Festival returns to New Delhi this November–December 2026, and the Call for Submissions is now OPEN!

We are looking for films that move through borders, between worlds, across identities and into the spaces we are often told not to enter.

Because feminism is also about who gets to tell the story, who gets to take up space, and whose stories are allowed to be remembered.

From the personal to the political, from the intimate to the collective, we seek stories that reclaim space, challenge the gaze, and imagine what becomes possible when we begin to tell our own stories, on our own terms.

Bring us your films.
Bring us your stories. Your anger. Your tenderness. Your contradictions. Your cinema.

In the alleys of the Hindi film and television industry, they are usually known as duplicates, juniors, body-doubles – the monikers are many. Urf navigates beyond these labels and explores who they truly are – actors, mimics, fans or more. The film delves into the lives of Kishore Bhanushali, Firoz Khan and Prashant Walde, lookalikes of superstars Dev Anand, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, respectively.

Limited seats.
