Children's Jamghat Jamghat is an NGO that seeks to rehabilitate street children. We offer a supportive home, foster independence and raise awareness within society.

Jamghat is a registered NGO that seeks to rehabilitate street children and to raise awareness within society by using the medium of street theatre as well as interactive workshops, night-walks and other social means of communication. Jamghat aims not only to provide the homeless a home, but also to equip them with the tools needed to be an able, independent and responsible member of the society th

ey inhabit. With the aim of being more than just a charity, Jamghat hopes to instill within everyone that it cares for, that to be a good human being is as important, if not more, than being a successful one. A little bit about the past…. In 2003, ActionAid India asked theatre artists Amit Sinha and Lokesh Jain to design and stage a play based on life on the streets of India, especially that of the young. The play was to premiere in a program for Prince Charles. Both Amit and Lokesh joined hands with fourteen street children, teaching them to act and express themselves through the medium of theatre for this venture. The play was a major success and at the end of three months, those very children who had been exposed to so much that life had to offer, decided to group together and learn those skills and values that would help them to have a more meaningful life, they called themselves…Jamghat. We had the privilege of welcoming the new cohort of students from ISDM to Jamghat's Aangan Centre. It was a meaningful exchange where our children shared their life stories, dreams, and experiences, while the ISDM students introduced themselves and spoke about their aspirations.

The visit was followed by a community walk led by Jamghat's children and staff. The purpose was simple yet powerful—to help students understand the realities of children living on the streets. They witnessed where children sleep, how they earn a living, where they find food, how they sustain themselves, and the many challenges they face every day. They also visited the night shelters and learned about the lives of families living around Urdu Park and Meena Bazar.

We hope this experience offered the students a different perspective on the world and deepened their understanding of the realities of the development sector.
One of the most fulfilling moments for us was seeing Jamghat's third-line leadership confidently take responsibility for the entire orientation. Their ability to communicate, engage, and creatively present our work reflects the strength of the leadership we are nurturing within the organisation.

A heartfelt thank you to the entire ISDM team for believing that Jamghat is the right place to introduce future development professionals to grassroots realities. A special thank you to Shilpa jhawar an Naghma Abidi for making this learning experience possible.

Finally, our deepest gratitude to all the families living around Urdu Park and Meena Bazar. Every time we visit with a large group, they welcome us warmly, generously share their stories, and help create an authentic learning experience for everyone. Your trust and openness make these visits truly meaningful.

Jamghat was honored to participate in the Civil Society Consultation organized during Child Rights Month at the India International Centre, New Delhi.

Meeting with Dr. Rashmi Singh, IAS, Secretary, Women and Child Development (WCD), Government of NCT of Delhi, and Dr. Om Prakash Vyas, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), along with DCPCR Members, civil society organizations working for children across Delhi was was truly an enriching, inspiring and incredible experience.

The consultation provided a valuable platform to discuss key issues affecting children, share field experiences, and strengthen collaboration to ensure every child enjoys their rights to protection, education, health, and participation.

We look forward to working with Dr. Om Prakash Vyas, Chairperson DCPCR, Delhi, other members of DCPCR and fellow organizations to build a safer, more inclusive, and child-friendly Delhi.
