Samarthyam’s goal is to promote the understanding and implementation of accessibility of the sustainable built, social and virtual environments, using the guiding principles of Universal Design and articles of the CRPD . It includes architectural, infrastructural design, transportation systems, habitat and information & communication technologies; so that everyone, including people with disabiliti
es and seniors (old people) can fully participate and contribute to society. We are the pioneer organization to join as Consultants to Government of India and make Policy Advocacy its tool for bringing change in people’s lives. Samarthyam’s team as change agents is disseminating Accessibility Awareness and Implementation Strategies. We focus on inclusion of persons with disabilities in health, education, employment, information, built, transport and tourism infrastructure. Furthermore, it is taking up action oriented research projects on Building Regulations, Right of Way, Inclusive Pedestrian Facilities and Transit systems, etc. Samarthyam is catalyst in re-designing the infrastructure set up of prime tourist spots, educational institutes, Mass Rapid Transit Systems, Commonwealth Games Venues, street & pedestrian infrastructure, etc. to make them universally accessible. Samarthyam’s team has presented more than 57 papers nationally & internationally, authored several manuals, guidelines, codes and published numerous articles.
