Our society registration date is April 19, 2010. We have been working since August 2009 in Delhi schools. Our primary area of work – promoting Internet Safety in India, a hitherto neglected subject amongst children despite massive penetration and usage of computers in the country. Why JaagoTeens ventured into Internet Safety?
~Relationships, dilemmas, sensitivities, disappointments, etc. are discu
ssed or shared online in minute detail with no thought or inhibition whatsoever of consequences.
~Instances of misuse are rampant and principals and teachers tell us of these.
~Cyber crime instances are increasing; need for careful use.
~Law lacks teeth, hence onus on user being aware and responsible. Therefore, urgent need for imparting awareness of Safe and Responsible Use of Internet
Objectives of Jaago Teens:
~To create awareness that while using the internet one needs to think before we click, post and act since online actions spread fast and far and can intensely affect people 24x7.
~To understand the risks and consequences of being both, perpetrator as well as victim of cyber crime.
~To provide knowledge of potential online threats so that one can identify risks and steer clear of them. This builds critical-thinking and decision-making skills.
~To engage them in advocacy: teaching safe, responsible cyber use.
~To observe Netiquette
