On 4th June, TARSHI facilitated a session on Digital Safety for Growing Children with parents and caregivers from HDFC Securities. The interactive session focused on understanding children's online experiences and exploring how adults can support them in navigating digital spaces with confidence, critical thinking, and care.

Through discussions, polls, scenarios, and reflections, participants explored the various kinds of content children encounter online. Together, we discussed how parents and caregivers can respond to children's questions and experiences in ways that build trust rather than fear.

A key takeaway from the session was that digital safety is not only about monitoring devices or restricting access. Open conversations, age-appropriate information, digital literacy, and strong parent-child relationships are some of the most effective ways to help children navigate the online world safely.

Information is power, and in the control of information lies the control of power. Power over events that impact the whole world and power over our individual lives. We see, everyday, firsthand, how information is withheld, manipulated and distorted. Sometimes it becomes difficult to sift the sense from the nonsense. But try, we must.

Read the In Plainspeak Issue on Information and S*xuality here: https://www.tarshi.net/inplainspeak/editorial-information-and-sexuality/

Ayesha Susan Thomas invites us to question whether information is indeed fact, and what that means for the ways we see our own and others’ bodies, behaviours and practices.

Prarthana Pai reflects on what she learned about bodies, sexuality and relationships “not through honest conversations but through what nobody said.”

Antara Buzarbaruah compares and talks about the flows of information now with those in 2005 when she was growing up. Much has changed, but young people still get most of their information about sexuality from their informal social networks.

Anant reviews a book Love, S*x and India: The Agents Of Ishq Anthology put together by Paromita Vohra

Imran Khan writes about sexualised deepfakes – images and videos of women made with AI technology that are used as digital weapons against women’s autonomy, dignity and safety.

Rohini Banerjee’s translated article talks about the issue of responsible representation in the news media and popular culture.

Go gently. Sift the sense from the nonsense.

✨ Meet Our Speakers ✨

As part of Unravelling the Knot: Facilitating and Sustaining SRHR Conversations Across Diverse Contexts, we are bringing together diverse voices featuring two practitioners who participated in TARSHI's SRHR Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes and two representatives from Amplify Change

Together, they will reflect on the possibilities and challenges of facilitating rights-based and pleasure-affirming SRHR conversations across different contexts. Drawing from experiences on the ground as well as perspectives on supporting and sustaining this work, the discussion will explore what has worked, what gaps remain, and what is needed to strengthen long-term engagement on SRHR.

The webinar is grounded in learnings from TARSHI's ToT programmes, which brought together 119 practitioners from 79 organisations across India to deepen their understanding of sexuality and SRHR and explore ways of integrating these approaches into their programmes and communities.

Many organisations recognise the need to expand conversations around sexuality and SRHR. Yet on the ground, these conversations are often shaped by stigma, resistance, misinformation, limited resources, and contexts that don't always make dialogue easy.

In many grassroots contexts, conversations around sexuality and SRHR continue to be limited to risk, violence prevention, maternal health, or protection-oriented frameworks.

Organisations working with adolescents and young people often recognise the need to expand conversations beyond these topics, but are restricted by challenging contexts, as well as their own hesitation, gaps in understanding, and the emotional demands of engaging with sensitive topics.

So, what does it take to work on SRHR on-ground and how can we sustain our engagement in such complex times?

Join us for Unravelling the Knot: Facilitating and Sustaining SRHR Conversations Across Diverse Contexts as we explore these learnings, hear from practitioners and funders, and discuss what it takes to sustain meaningful SRHR engagement across diverse contexts.

In her In Plainspeak article, Devanshi Panda traces the ways we learn who we are and who we are not allowed to be. Through memories of childhood, questions of gender, and reflections on selfhood, she explores what is lost when children are handed scripts instead of possibilities. What if childhood were not a journey towards fitting in, but an invitation to experiment, wander, and become? As Devanshi reminds us, “By giving ourselves and the children around us the grace to explore and adopt different ways of being, we open up new possibilities of life itself.”

Abortion has been legal in India for over 50 years. Yet many people still have questions about what the law allows, who can access abortion services, and whose consent is actually required.

The Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act lays out when and how abortion can be accessed, who can provide these services, and the rights of people seeking them. Over the years, legal changes have also expanded access, including removing distinctions between married and unmarried persons.

Understanding these rights can be an important part of making informed decisions about your body, your health, and your pregnancy. At the same time, it is important to remember that while the law provides certain protections, people's lived experiences of accessing healthcare can be different.

Get • Point of View

What does it mean to imagine and create visuals where women and q***r communities are not merely present, but thriving?

The images we see around us shape how we understand bodies, identities, relationships, and possibilities. Yet many visual narratives continue to flatten, stereotype, or erase experiences that do not fit dominant norms.

When we centre women, q***r, trans, and gender-diverse people in all their complexity, we make space for stories of pleasure, joy, desire, resilience, care, community, and self-determination. We challenge the idea that some bodies are more visible, valuable, or worthy than others.

Schools today are navigating conversations about consent, body image, relationships, gender, sexuality, online safety, and wellbeing with increasing frequency. Students are asking important questions, and educators are often expected to respond while balancing institutional expectations, community concerns, and their own need for guidance and support.

At the same time, schools are being called upon to create environments that are safe, inclusive, and supportive for all students. This requires more than good intentions. It requires opportunities for learning, reflection, policy development, and sustained engagement.

The SISA Schools Programme is TARSHI's one-year membership initiative designed to support schools in building Safe, Inclusive, and Self-Affirming ecosystems. Drawing on over 25 years of TARSHI's work with schools and educators, the programme offers trainings, resources, policy guidance, and a community of practice for educators committed to advancing student safety, wellbeing, and gender equity.

The programme is open to schools across India, including private, public, charitable, and international institutions. Up to five teachers, counsellors, or leadership team members can participate through a single membership.

Most of us have done it.

Typed a question into a search bar late at night. Read three articles. Watched a video. Opened a Reddit thread. Closed all the tabs.

These questions can be invitations to notice patterns, explore our boundaries, understand our stress, reconnect with our values, or simply become more curious about ourselves.

This is where reflection can be useful.

The worksheets in TARSHI's Self-Care Essentials aren't designed to give you the "right" answer. Instead, they offer space to slow down, ask different questions, and pay attention to parts of yourself that often get overlooked in the rush to solve a problem.

When we talk about sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), who comes to mind?

Often, discussions around healthcare, bodily autonomy, consent, safety, and wellbeing are framed as universal. But in practice, access to these rights is not experienced equally by everyone.

Many communities continue to face barriers to healthcare, discrimination, stigma, and violence. S*x workers are among those whose experiences are frequently overlooked, despite being directly affected by policies, healthcare systems, and social attitudes that shape everyday life.

On International S*x Workers' Rights Day, we are reminded that conversations around health and rights must include those who are often pushed to the margins. Because meaningful access cannot exist without inclusion.

At TARSHI, we continue to advocate for a rights-based approach that centres dignity, bodily autonomy, and equitable access to information, healthcare, and support for all.
