From addressing women writers in her evocative nazm "Ae Qalamkaar Qabeele Ki Saheli Meri" to invoking Ghalib's legacy with an unapologetic modern feminine gaze, her words did not merely echo across the room—they set a benchmark for contemporary Urdu poetry.

From the academic halls of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Jamia Millia Islamia to international shooting podiums, Sabeera Haris has carved a legacy built on raw grit, relentless focus, and unbreakable courage.

Hailing from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, Sabeera stepped into trap shotgun shooting—a demanding discipline where women’s representation has historically faced high barriers. Balancing gruelling academic demands with countless hours on the shooting range, she turned every challenge into unmatched precision:

🥇 Individual & Team Gold – Asian Shooting Championship (Junior Women's Trap, Shymkent)

🥉 Bronze Medal – ISSF Junior World Cup (Porpetto, Italy)

🥉 Bronze Medal – ISSF World Cup (Trap Mixed Team, Larnaca)

🏆 1st Place – Perazzi Cup (Senior Women's, Lonato, Italy)

15th August is not just a date on the calendar—it is the beating heart of thousands of untold sacrifices that gave us the free sky we look up to today 🇮🇳✨

When the history of our freedom was being written in courage and conviction, the women of India didn't just walk along—they led from the front. 🕊️🔥

From the battlefield to the revolutionary underground:

🗡️ Begum Hazrat Mahal & Rani Lakshmibai — who defied empires and ignited the spirit of resistance with fearless leadership.

🎙️ Sarojini Naidu — the ‘Nightingale of India’ whose words stirred a nation and broke political barriers.

🚩 Aruna Asaf Ali — the fiery heroine who raised the Tricolour at the height of the Quit India Movement.

📻 Usha Mehta — the fearless voice behind the underground Congress Radio, keeping the pulse of freedom alive in silence.

From Winning Freedom to Shaping the Future 🌸🇮🇳

Freedom did not stop in 1947.

Yesterday, our women broke the chains of colonial rule.

Today, they are breaking barriers in classrooms, boardrooms, science labs, and community leadership.

Tomorrow, every girl who claims her right to education, raises her voice, and chooses her own path continues this revolution.

A woman’s voice is never just hers—it builds homes, transforms generations, and awakens entire societies. 💫

She read. She questioned. She organised. She resisted.

Born in Hyderabad in 1915, Baji Jamalunnisa grew up in a time when a woman's world was often expected to remain within the walls of her home. But books opened a different world for her. From reading progressive literature as a young girl to becoming part of Hyderabad's progressive and political movements, she refused to remain a silent observer.

She stepped beyond purdah, supported the freedom struggle, opened her home to political and literary discussions, sheltered freedom fighters, and worked for women's social and economic empowerment. Her association with the Progressive Writers' movement and the Telangana struggle reflects a side of India's freedom story that is rarely told.

Baji lived for 101 years, but her story is not simply about a long life. It is about the courage to question, the freedom to think, and the determination to participate.

This Independence Day, we remember the women whose names may not always appear in our textbooks, but whose courage helped shape the India we inherited.

Her Story. Our Heritage.

Before India became free, there were women who had already begun fighting for the idea of freedom.

Abadi Bano Begum — Bi Amma — was one of them.

A widow who raised her children against difficult circumstances.
A mother who pawned her jewellery to educate her sons.
A woman who lived much of her life observing purdah, yet stepped into public life when the freedom struggle called for her voice.

She mobilised women.
She raised funds.
She supported the Khilafat and nationalist movements.
She encouraged her sons to continue the struggle even when they were imprisoned.
And she believed deeply in Hindu-Muslim unity.

She died in 1924—23 years before India became independent.

She never saw the tricolour rise over a free India.

But the freedom she worked for outlived her.

And yet, when we remember the freedom struggle, she is often remembered simply as “the mother of the Ali Brothers.”

She was more than someone's mother.

She was Abadi Bano Begum.
She was Bi Amma.
She was a woman who helped shape India's freedom struggle.

This Independence Day, let us remember the women whose contributions became invisible in the history they helped create.

Her Story. Our Heritage.

Independence did not end the struggle. For Bibi Amtus Salam, it began a new one.

Born into a conservative Muslim family in Patiala, she was denied formal education and grew up within the restrictions of purdah. Yet she stepped beyond those boundaries and found her place in public life.

She became a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi and dedicated herself to one of the most difficult causes of her time — Hindu-Muslim unity.

When communal violence tore through Noakhali, she did not stand at a distance.

She stayed.

She worked among communities living in fear. She undertook a 25-day fast to protest injustice and help restore trust. Gandhi later recognised her as a driving force behind the peace efforts in Noakhali.

And when Partition brought displacement, abduction and unimaginable suffering, she continued to serve.

She crossed borders to help women and refugees. She worked for rehabilitation. At Rajpura, she established Kasturba Seva Mandir and devoted herself to helping displaced families rebuild their lives.

She died in 1985, decades after Independence.

But her life leaves us with a question:

What does freedom mean if we cannot protect one another's humanity?

Bibi Amtus Salam did not simply fight for an independent India.

She worked for a humane India — an India where freedom did not mean hatred.

This Independence Day, we remember a Muslim woman whose contribution to India's freedom, peace and rebuilding has remained largely invisible.
