No silver spoon. No big city background. Just a young man willing to learn.

Shreyash Birdawade grew up in a home where his father was the only earning member, bearing the weight of the entire family on his shoulders. Shreyash watched that sacrifice every day and carried it with him as the deepest motivation of his life.

When he joined Smile Foundation's Skill Training and Employability Program, he came with little experience but an immense hunger to change his family's story. For three months, he poured himself into learning - BFSI skills, communication, workplace readiness - showing up every single day with sincerity.

When the interviews came, all that hard work spoke for him. He appeared before companies and walked away with something he had been working towards all along - his first job, his first salary, his first step towards becoming his family's strength.

Today, Shreyash works as a professional in the Digitised Global Services sector, standing on his own feet and slowly lifting his family alongside him.

When people talk openly, change around to***co use becomes possible.

On Anti To***co Day, IEC activities were conducted across communities in Gujarat, Karnataka and Punjab under the Smile on Wheels programme, as part of the Health project supported by Kotak Mahindra Prime Ltd.’s CSR initiative.

For many, to***co use is closely linked to daily work routines, often seen as a way to manage fatigue or hunger. Through these sessions, efforts were made to address common myths, share real-life experiences and build understanding around its impact on health, finances and family life.

Participants also engaged in discussions on how addiction works, why cravings occur during work, and the support available for those who wish to reduce or quit. There was strong support from the community, with participants engaging in conversations and sharing their experiences.

When children know the signs, anaemia becomes easier to address.

Anaemia continues to affect many children, often showing up as tiredness, low energy, dizziness, pale skin or difficulty concentrating in class. When these signs go unnoticed, they can affect a child’s learning, participation and overall wellbeing.

Through its Health programme, Smile Foundation continues to take primary healthcare and preventive health awareness closer to children and communities. As part of this ongoing effort, school visits help children understand anaemia in simple, age-appropriate ways, while also encouraging early identification and timely care.

The focus is on building awareness around common symptoms, nutrition, iron-rich food, hygiene practices and the importance of regular health check-ups. These engagements also help strengthen health-seeking behaviour among children, families and communities.

Breaking the silence is often the first step towards better health

An awareness programme was conducted in Sahraul to promote understanding around menstrual health and hygiene, while encouraging open conversations within the community. The session began with a street play that sensitised participants on stigma and the importance of talking openly about menstruation.

This was followed by an interactive discussion on adolescent reproductive and sexual health, where participants engaged in conversations around menstrual hygiene management, reproductive health and common myths. Activities such as poster making, quizzes and a menstruation relay race made the session more participatory and helped reinforce key messages.

The programme concluded with the distribution of hygiene kits, supporting better practices and improving access to essential menstrual hygiene products.

Progress often takes shape when efforts come together.

We thank Mohit T. and the team from Bajaj Finserv for visiting the Skill Training and Employability Programme (STeP) centre and engaging with the youth, trainers and on-ground teams. The visit allowed for direct conversations around training, aspirations and the pathways young people are working towards.

Many of the youth come from households with limited and uncertain sources of income. Their journeys into training and employment are often shaped by these realities, influencing the choices they make and the opportunities they are able to access.

At the STeP centre supported by Bajaj Finserv, youth are trained in 21st century skills such as communication, digital literacy and workplace readiness, along with access to placement support that helps them transition into employment opportunities.

Silence around menstruation holds women back more than the cycle itself.

Through the women empowerment programme, awareness and access are being strengthened, helping women and girls make informed choices and break long-standing taboos.
