When a defence personnel is martyred his family doesn’t just lose a bread winner but it also creates a life long void. Life’s problems don’t just go away with one time

funds that are made available to some families. Our inspiration came when we met our retired Army men at Jantar Mantar during their OROP protests. We learnt the hardships faced by their families & realized that media shows only the sensational news but doesn’t create true awareness. We wanted to do our part so we decided to use what we knew - Video making. Around mid-2016 we met a few retired army men & covered their stories by means of videos. We again met them to celebrate Diwali, they loved it because someone cared. We have seen our veterans demanding OROP for over 670 days. Wife of Shaheed L/NK Hanumanthappa is even agreeing to sweeping floor to live a dignified life. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar had to voice his support for Defence personnel in Jan'17 through social media. It is after this act of him, government came into action and started "Bharat Ke Veer" initiative. The people who keep us safe deserve better. So finally in Feb. 2017 we registered ‘Support Our Heroes’ as an NGO to make a positive difference in the lives of defence personnel and their families through public awareness & various welfare programs.

🇮🇳UPDATE – When Compassion Turns Into Action🇮🇳
A few days ago , we shared the story of Smt. Maya Devi w/o Late Sepoy Ram Lal, an 80+ year old Veer Nari, whose home is on the verge of collapse .

Many of you paused, read and felt the pain.
And some of you stepped forward — with courage, compassion and action.

We are deeply humbled to share that Support Our Heroes (SOH) successfully delivered the financial assistance of Rs 1,51,000 to the family at Station Headquarters Unchi Bassi, Punjab — taking a meaningful step towards restoring dignity and hope for the family of Late Sepoy Ram Lal.

This would not have been possible without the generous support of IWC Delhi Westend Dist. 301, Ms Monisha Wamankar, Lt Col Ashok Sayankar, Mrs Madhu Suneja, Mrs Manju Sud, Lt Col Dipankar Ghosh.

The true way to commemorate is not just by changing display pictures or expressing sentiments on social media—it lies in our actions, in stepping out of our comfort zones, and in standing by those who truly need us.

Over the last two days, the team of (SOH) travelled to the villages of Ferozpur, Punjab, extending financial assistance of ₹2,40,000 to families who suffered severe losses due to recent calamities.

This effort would not have been possible without the unwavering support of HFI Welfare Foundation, led by Mrs. Bindu Govilla and Col Sanjeev Govilla. Their constant readiness and dedication towards true sewa for our real heroes and their families is deeply inspiring—especially for those who often remain beyond the reach of government schemes or face long waiting periods for assistance.

🇮🇳 **Let Us Rebuild the Home of a Soldier’s Family** 🇮🇳
Smt Maya Devi (80+ years old) — widow of Late Sepoy Ram Lal from Punjab — is living her final years in a house that is falling apart.

Her husband served the Nation with pride.
Today, his family is struggling just to survive.

She survives on a meagre widow pension.
Her two married sons work as daily wage labourers — work is uncertain, income is irregular.
They are raising three young daughters (Class 11th, 9th & 7th) and are determined to educate them despite severe hardship.

The house 🏚️ built years ago from the veteran’s life savings is now in a dangerous condition.
Last year, heavy rains flooded the entire village. Because the house floor is lower than the road level, water entered the house completely.

* Roofs are covered with tin sheets
* Walls are damaged
* Foundation weakened
* Floor level needs to be raised
* Walls need to be rebuilt higher

If repairs are not completed before the next monsoon, the family will suffer the same devastation again.

Total Renovation Cost: ₹4.5 Lakhs
Family Contribution (despite hardship): ₹2.20 Lakhs
Amount already arranged by us: ₹22,700
Amount Still Required: ₹2,07,300

Even in poverty, the family has done everything they could.
Now they need us.

This is not charity.
This is our duty towards the family of a soldier who once stood for us.

***UPDATE | When a Veteran’s Family Needed Hope, the Nation Answered with SOH 🇮🇳***
A few days ago, Support Our Heroes (SOH) shared the painful reality of Bhavesh, an 18 yr old battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) — the grandson of Late Naib Subedar Dan Singh.

It was a father’s silent plea.
It was a family running out of time.
And it was a moment that tested our collective conscience as a True INDIAN.

Today, SOH share this update with Gratitude, Humility and Hope.

When the family was facing a critical shortfall of Rs 1,00,000 for Bhavesh’s final, life-saving last surgery scheduled in Delhi, Support Our Heroes (SOH) stepped in on compassionate grounds and handed over Rs 1,00,000, ensuring that his treatment will not be delayed for want of money.

On the occasion of the 10th Veterans Day, the Ramkund Gunners, under the aegis of the Ace of Spades Gunners, organised a meaningful commemorative function at Mendhar, Jammu & Kashmir and graciously invited "Support Our Heroes (SOH)" to be a part of this noble initiative.

Our Co-Founder - Gaurav Shukla represented SOH in the Event.

As part of this outreach, a wheelchair-bound veteran, supporting a family of eight solely on his pension, was empowered with an E-rickshaw worth Rs 1,30,000, enabling his family to earn a sustainable livelihood and live with pride.

This generous support was sponsored by our social partner Inner Wheel District 301 & its clubs, under the inspiring leadership of Mrs. Deepika Bali and handed over on 11 January 2026.

In another act of compassion, SOH extended financial assistance of Rs 91,000 to a veteran whose house was partially damaged during the recent floods in Jammu & Kashmir. Having invested his entire life’s savings into the now-damaged home, this support will help him begin repairs and rebuild his life after the devastating calamity.

***VETERAN's Grandson NEEDS the NATION Today 🇮🇳***
Jagdish (50yrs), son of Late Naib Subedar Dan Singh, is fighting the toughest battle of his life as a father. Working on a contractual job with the Uttarakhand Government, living in a rented house for his children’s education, he is raising twin daughters pursuing B.Tech and an 18-year-old son Bhavesh; suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

Being the grandson of a soldier, his son is not covered under ECHS as per existing policy and rule.

Two major surgeries have already been completed successfully, with visible improvement in his son’s condition. The FINAL and MOST Critical Surgery is scheduled for the first week of February in Delhi. The total treatment cost is Rs 9,75,000. After knocking on every possible door—State and Central Government offices, his father’s Parent Army Unit and multiple welfare departments— Rs 1,55,000 is Still REQUIRED.

Time is running out.
Yet this father has not given up. He has done everything within his limits to save his only son.

As a Last Ray Of Hope, he has reached out to Support Our Heroes (SOH).
