Technologies can help make our world fairer, more peaceful, and more just. Digital advances can support and accelerate achievement of each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals – from ending extreme poverty to reducing maternal and infant mortality, promoting sustainable farming and decent work, and achieving universal literacy. But technologies can also threaten privacy, erode security and fuel inequality. They have implications for human rights and human agency. Like generations before, we – governments, businesses and individuals – have a choice to make in how we harness and manage new technologies. Digital technology has radically transformed almost every aspect of human life in recent years, including communications, the workplace, entertainment, travel, banking, and shopping. From artificial intelligence to tap payments to Bluetooth, humanity has changed drastically because of technology
The word “digital” comes from Latin – digitus , finger – and refers to one of the oldest tools for counting! When information is stored, transmitted or forwarded in digital format, it is converted into numbers – at the most basic machine-level as “zeroes and ones”.
Digital technologies refer to devices such as personal computers and tablets, tools such as cameras, calculators and digital toys, systems such as software and apps, augmented and virtual reality, and less tangible forms of technology such as the Internet.Digital technology makes it easy to stay in touch with friends, family, and work remotely, even if you are in another part of the world. You can express through words, video, audio, and exchange other media. Websites, apps, and software have all been designed to help users to socialize. Its characteristics include malleability, homogeneity, transferability, sociotechnical maturity, agentic capabilities, and unprecedented economic expansion. The internet is par excellence the greatest example of digital technology. The starting point of the digital revolution is considered to be: a) the invention of the computing system called Electronic Numerical Integrator and Calculator (ENIAC) between 1943-1946. b) in 1969, when the first computers were connected over the ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). The digital revolution, which started around 1980 with the Internet and after with mobile devices, social networking, big data, and computing clouds, revolutionized work practices in healthcare.. It services, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols. Digital technology has transformed the landscape of communication, transcending geographical boundaries and time zones. Communication channels like email, instant messaging, and video conferencing have bridged the gap between individuals and organizations, enabling real-time interaction and collaboration.
