सीताराम म्हात्रे फाऊंडेशन ही एक अशी धर्मादाय संस्था आहे जी कोणत्याही प्रकारची देणगी अथवा वर्गणी स्वीकारीत नाही. ह्या संस्थेचे सर्वच्या सर्व उपक्रम सीताराम म्हात्रे फाऊंडेशनचे संस्थापक-अध्यक्ष श्री. चंद्रकांत काळुराम म्हात्रे स्वखर्चाने चालवतात. आम्ही कोण?

सीताराम म्हात्रे फाऊंडेशन ही शिक्षण व संशोधन या दोन क्षेत्रांमध्ये काम करणारी नवी मुंबईतील एक धर्मादाय संस्था आहे. सध्या फाऊंडेशनतर्फे "इंग्रजी सर्वांसाठी" व "संतसाहित्य युनिकोडमध्ये" हे दोन उपक्रम राबविण्यात येत आहेत.

शिक्षण

इंग्रजी संभाषण आज एक अशी साधनसंपत्ती होऊन बसली आहे जी आर्थिक व सामाजिक उन्नतीसाठी अत्यंत आवश्यक तर आहे परंतु समाजातील एक फार मोठा वर्ग त्या साधनसंपत्तीपासून वंचित राहतो आहे, कारण इंग्रजी संभाषण हे इंग्रजी माध्यमाच्या शाळांमधून शिकलेल्यांची मक्तेदारी बनली आहे तर इंग्रजी माध्यमाच्या शाळांमधून शिक्षण हे फक्त सधन वर्गालाच परवडण्याजोगे! हे दुष्टचक्र मोडून काढण्यासाठी फाऊंडेशनच्या "इंग्रजी सर्वांसाठी" या उपक्रमांतर्गत आम्ही महाविद्यालयीन गरजू विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी निःशुल्क इंग्रजी संभाषण कार्यशाळा घेत आहोत. तसेच आमच्या "रोजगारासाठी इंग्रजी" या उपक्रमांतर्गत आम्ही भाषांतर प्रशिक्षण वर्ग चालवीत आहोत. भविष्यात नवी मुंबई परिसरातील महानगरपालिकेच्या शाळांतील विद्यार्थ्यांकरिता निःशुल्क इंग्रजी संभाषण वर्ग सुरु करण्याचा आमचा मानस आहे.

संशोधन

संशोधकांमध्ये ईच्छा व क्षमता असूनदेखील भारतीय भाषांमधील संतसाहित्याचे संगणकीय भाषाशास्त्रीय व परिमाणात्मक भाषाशास्त्रीय संशोधन आजतागायत होऊ शकलेले नाही याचे मूळ कारण म्हणजे ज्यांवर संगणन प्रक्रिया होऊ शकेल असे पाठ भांडार (Text Repository) मुळातच अस्तित्वात नाहीत किंवा संशोधकांना सहज उपलब्ध होत नाहीत. संतसाहित्याच्या संशोधन क्षेत्रांतील ही फार मोठी उणीव भरून काढण्यासाठी फाऊंडेशनने "संतसाहित्य युनिकोडमध्ये" (Bhakti Literature in Unicode) हा उपक्रम हाती घेतला आहे. या प्रकल्पाच्या पहिल्या चरणाची सुरुवात २७ फेब्रुवारी, २०२२ रोजी मराठी राजभाषा दिनाचे औचित्य साधून करण्यात आली. या पहिल्या चरणांत समग्र मराठी संतसाहित्य युनिकोडमध्ये उपलब्ध होणार आहे. दुसऱ्या चरणांत हिंदी संतसाहित्यावर काम करण्यात येईल व तदनंतर इतर भारतीय भाषांमधील संतसाहित्य युनिकोडमध्ये उपलब्ध करून देण्यात येईल. जेणेकरून संतसाहित्याच्या संशोधकांना हे शतकानुशतकांचे सांस्कृतिक व साहित्यिक संचित एका ठिकाणी सहजगत्या उपलब्ध होऊन संशोधनाचा मार्ग सुकर होईल. भविष्यात हा प्रकल्प भारतातील डिजिटल मानव्यविद्याशाखेच्या इतिहासातील एक मैलाचा दगड ठरेल!

For the computational/corpus linguistic study of Bhakti literature, Sitaram Mhatre Foundation is set to launch its first Bhakti Digital Humanities Lab in FG Naik College, Koparkhairane. The Lab will be fully funded by the Foundation and equipped with high-performance computers and paraphernalia, comprehensive Bhakti literature corpora created through Foundation's Bhakti Literature in Unicode project, research & analytical tools, and hundreds of e-books of primary and secondary texts of Bhakti literature, including a collection of digital manuscripts of Bhakti texts. The primary objectives of the Lab will be publishing research papers and conducting workshops/training sessions for students and scholars of Bhakti literature. The Lab will be operational from January 2026 and begin its work with quantitative analysis of Sant Dnyandev’s 13th century seminal Marathi work Dnyaneshwari under the guidance of Foundation’s President Shri Chandrakant Kaluram Mhatre, who will be the Principal Investigator of the Lab. We thank Principal Pratap Mahadik and his dedicated team for housing the Lab in FG Naik College and for understanding the significance of the Lab as the first Digital Humanities Lab of its kind in entire India.

Sitaram Mhatre Foundation gifted books to the students library started by Ms. Nancy Jacob, Lead Teacher (English), Abhyuday Nagar Mumbai Public School. Under the aegis of its English for ALL programme, Foundation's Treasurer Ms. Grishma Patil visited the school and gave away the books in the presence of the School's Principal Ms. Fatima and Ms. Nancy.
