CHOANAL ATRESIA
Rare congenital anamoly successfully operated at MADHUMANI NURSING HOME, NANDYAL. AP. 24.1.23

3 and half year old male child from Anantapur seen by other ENT surgeons came with total nasal obstruction with recurrent infections and snoring.

Diagnostic endoscopy under anesthesia and CT scan confirmed as congenital CHOANAL ATRESIA.
Nasal passage between the nose and nasopharynx is blocked with Bony Atretic plate.

After proper investigations this child was operated on 24th January 2023 under ga.

Atretic bony plate is perforated to successfully make a permanent lifelong patent naso pharyngeal airway.

Following equipment are used.
1. Pediatric micro debrider.
2. Skull base drilling. 3. Coblaotor Arthocare.
4. HD cameras and
5. Endoscopic cautery equipment with 4 hand technique.

We operated with space of 3 to 4 mm from both nostrils seeing under endoscopic view.
Pediatric hypotensive anaesthesia is very important.

The final view of the nasopharynx where we can see both eustachian tubes in one view with posterior septectomy removing 5 mm of nasal septum posteriorly.
