Call for Applications: Peace/Climate Justice Internship – India Peace Centre

India Peace Centre invites applications for its Peace/Climate Justice Internship Programme, commencing in July 2026.

We are seeking two dedicated interns passionate about issues related to peace, ecology, climate justice, and social transformation.

Eligibility:

Students currently pursuing or having completed a Master’s degree or PhD

About the Internship:
The Peace Internship offers an opportunity to engage with meaningful work in areas such as peacebuilding, ecology, and community engagement. Interns will work closely with ongoing programmes and contribute to research, coordination, content writing, website building and outreach initiatives.

Duration:
Starting July 2026 (3-6 months)

2. Climate Justice Internship (1)

The Academy on Ecology, was inaugurated today in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This is one of its first program that deals with in-depth information about different aspects of climate change including Climate mitigation, adaptation and climate resilience. The five days intense learning will provide sessions on climate migration, climate and gender, just energy transition, UN COP mechanisms, sustainable farming, waste management, nexus approach to land, water and food.

25 young participants from different academic institutions and universities of India are participating. They will be engaged in technical presentations, group work, exposure visits and climate story telling.

Dr.Asir Ebenezer, Chairperson of the India Peace Centre spoke about building right momentums for climate justice. He also emphasized the multiple approach through faith, science and academic to climate justice. Joerg Ostermann Ohno from the Ecumenical Centre in his virtual message, highlighted global climate crisis, increasing threat to biodiversity and existential crisis. He urged for practical climate action that must be community base solutions together with scientific results. Dr.Rabindra Garada, Head of the Department of Sociology of Utkal University delivered an academic speech of an inclusive climate action through learning from nature and life of creatures.

Ms.Ompriya Rath, one of the Board of Trustees of the India Peace Centre moderated the inaugural session and presented the objective of the Academy. She illustrated the significance of balance between Indigenous knowledge system and modern practice for better climate solutions.

India Peace Centre in collaboration with NCCI Commission on women celebrated World Water Day in New Delhi on 20th March 2026 reflecting on the theme "Water and Gender". The treasurer of IPC, Dr.Tejinder Singh Rawal and Rev.Jyoti Singh, Executive Secretary, NCCI Commission on Women led the discourse and shared valuable insights. Women and girls are disproportionately affected by water-related challenges due to entrenched gender roles, inadequate infrastructure, underrepresentation, limited funding, restrictive social norms and systemic inequalities.

The 2026 World Water Day campaign calls for a transformative, rights-based approach where women have equal voice, leadership, and opportunities in water decision-making – making water a force for a healthier, more prosperous, gender-equal future that will benefit us all. ( UN Source )

While the theme of the International Women's Day announced by the UN was Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls and Official IWD Campaign adopted the theme "GiveToGain", the India Peace Centre decided to recognize women who have been selflessly contributing to the society. As many as 70 women and men came together to assert the rights of women, equality and justice for women by first recognizing the immense contributions women offer to the society.

Surbhi Shirpurkar, Journalist and News Anchor, Chief Guest of the event spoke about asserting the voices of women. She shared about her own life formation and how women can make a difference upon being encouraged and supported. Ms.Alice Joe Paul, Former AGM Air India was also present as a special guest, who inspired the participants with her powerful stories and experiences. Ms.Nargis Chimthanawala, an educationist, also a special guest spoke about women and education.

Mr.Angelious Michael, Director of India Peace Centre highlighted about women and men together envisioning a better world. Rev.Kasta Dip, Former Director IPC, currently serving in Poland for Church of England was a special guest, who illustrated stories to convey the message of hope for an inclusive society where women are given due respect and dignity. Dr.Tejinder Singh, Rawal, Treasurer of IPC, and the facilitator of the event, shared his deep insight stating that a a society cannot progress without women's engagement. India Peace Centre is happy to announce its next Training Program - "Academy on Ecology" scheduled to be held from 25th to 29th March 2026 at Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The Academy will have presentations and practical exposures. It will deal with
1. Climate Change - Mitigation, Adaptation, Resilience and Equity
2. UN Sustainable Development Goals
3. Climate Induced Migration
4. UN COP
5. National and International Policies
6. Indigenous Knowledge System
7. Land, Water and Food
8. Interfaith response

Participant will be provided with intense classroom learning and visits. They will receive researched study materials.

Expectation from the Participants

1. Young people between the age group of 20-27
2. Committed towards climate justice
3. Willingness to volunteer in Climate Awareness, Advocacy and Action at least 3 years after the Training,
4. Endorsement from one of the constituents of IPC or IPC Chapters

India Peace Centre organized a talk on "Strengthening Interfaith Collaboration for Sustainable Peace" in New Delhi on 17th January 2026 bringing together faith leaders and representatives, thinkers, collaborators and institution heads and representatives.

Rev.Dr.Asir Ebenezer, Chairperson of IPC shared the opening reflection. He emphasized the pressing need of dialogue, consultation, interfaith cooperation for sustainable peace.

Ms.Sunita Suna, Executive Secretary for Programs at the Asia Pacific Alliances of YMCAs, Hongkong and Ms.Nilakshi Rajkhowa, Director of the office of the Public Affairs of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is presented the keynote. They highlighted number of issues including participating in social justice concern, Interfaith conversation and action, multi faith co-existence, Peace and justice as connecting points for interfaith cooperation, Collaboration to be beyond geographical boundaries, Religion as a powerful force for transforming lives, focusing on Ethical foundation, Equality of women and men, care for creation.

Mr.Sanjay Jain also spoke about peace and non-violence from Jain perspective. He illustrated how Jain practices promote peace with equality and dignity.

Participants shared different ideas to strengthen interfaith peace network and peace initiatives. The talk became the starting point for the IPC National Task Force for sustaining and building peace.
