Sometimes, the best additions to a program begin with a simple question.
At Math.Biz 2026, that question was:
โ๐ช๐ต๐ ๐ฑ๐ผ๐ปโ๐ ๐๐ฒ ๐ต๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐ผ๐บ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ ๐๐ผ๐๐น?โ
Academic bowl competitions have long been a part of STEM education. Science Bowls, Math Bowls, and Physics Bowls have shown how a quiz can become much more than a test of knowledge - it can become a celebration of teamwork, quick thinking, and learning under pressure.
This year, economics joined that list.
The idea came from ๐ง๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ต ๐๐๐น๐ธ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป๐ถ , a RAM alumnus who is still only a Grade 11 student. Having experienced Math.Biz as a participant, he returned with a fresh perspective and took the lead in designing and conducting the campโs very first ๐๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐ผ๐บ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ ๐๐ผ๐๐น.
The event began with a qualifying round of MCQs based on concepts covered during the camp. The top 16 students from each batch - MidCaps and SmallCaps - advanced to the finals, where they competed in teams of four in a fast-paced, game show - style competition.
The questions went far beyond textbook economics. Students connected concepts with current affairs, general knowledge, and real-world applications. Every countdown sparked discussion. Every answer demanded collaboration. And every round reminded us that learning is at its best when students are actively engaged.
Watching the room come alive - the excitement, the strategy, the celebrations, and even the debates - made one thing clear: economics belongs on the stage just as much as any other STEM discipline.
For us, the Economics Bowl wasnโt just a new event. It was a reflection of what we hope Math.Biz continues to be: a place where students donโt just participate, but create; where alumni return to build experiences for the next generation; and where great ideas can come from anyone, regardless of age.
