Our Story

The Indian Institute of Youth Welfare (IIYW) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) which started its journey in the field of empowerment for the underprivileged in 1973, considering ‘Youth’ as a center point for development. Within over 40 years, the institute has made history in the field of development, setting an example for NGOs in the country. IIYW is a regional organisation serving the districts of Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Yavatmal and Akola in Maharashtra.

The institute strives to reach out to the underprivileged section of society, with special focus on skills development and capacity building for everyone. Our projects for various target groups such as rural and tribal poor, slum dwellers, truck drivers, female s*x workers, migrant labourers and sustaining and saving the environment have changed the lives of many through various interventions. At IIYW’s campus in Lonara, the institute provides trainings for supervisors and Anganwadi workers. These can be seen as key projects towards improving women’s and children’s health and overall empowerment in Maharashtra.
