The Kalar community is distributed all over India under different names: Kalar/Jaiwal in Uttar Pradesh, Kallowar in Bihar and Jain kalar or Dadsena in Orissa and Maharashtra.

The term Kalar or Kalal has been originated from King of Kallul - a place in Northern Indi

a. The Jain Kalar are numerically dominant and economically and educationally advanced. They are Marathi speaking both inside and outside house.
[edit] Social Reforms. Gandhi requested the Kalar community to abandon their Business. Most of the Kalars followed his plea and left the Liquor business. Though this community is known for their ancestral Business, they have a reputation of being Non Drinkers.[1]
