Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant’s remarks comparing certain people to “cockroaches” triggered widespread backlash across social media, especially after many interpreted the comments as targeting Indian youth, media and activists.

After the controversy, CJI Surya Kant issued a clarification saying his criticism was directed at individuals with fake or bogus degrees who enter professions like law, media and activism — not at the youth of India.

He stated:

“I criticised those who entered professions with fake and bogus degrees… It is baseless to suggest that I criticised the youth of our nation… Every youth of India inspires me.”

Now the bigger question:

When someone holds one of the highest constitutional positions in the country, should words be chosen more carefully — especially when speaking about young people, media and public discourse?

Because for millions of Indian youth struggling with unemployment, competition, exams, careers and uncertainty… words from powerful institutions don’t sound like ordinary remarks.

They stay.
And they shape trust.

Do you think the clarification was enough? Or should public figures at the highest level be more cautious with such statements?

Comment your opinion respectfully. 👇
