A heartwarming incident from Ernakulam, Kerala, has once again highlighted the lifesaving role of nurses and the importance of timely CPR.
A 43-year-old man suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while driving himself to the hospital after experiencing severe chest pain. His car became trapped in heavy traffic, and he collapsed inside the vehicle.
At that critical moment, Staff Nurse Anjali Baiju from LF Hospital, Angamaly, and nursing student Ardra Raj, who were travelling on a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus, noticed the commotion. Without hesitation, they got off the bus, rushed to the car, and immediately began performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
The two nurses continued providing CPR throughout the journey until the patient reached the hospital. Doctors later confirmed that the patient's condition had started improving by the time he arrived. Further investigations revealed a blocked coronary artery, and he underwent emergency angioplasty.
The rescue was made possible not only by the nurses' prompt action and clinical expertise but also by the cooperation of bystanders, who helped drive the car, clear the traffic, and arrange immediate medical assistance.
This inspiring incident is a powerful reminder that early CPR saves lives. It also reflects the unwavering commitment, courage, and professionalism of nurses, who stand at the forefront of emergency care and often become the difference between life and death.
