The earliest days of a child’s life shape everything that follows.

Through Vanavil’s Golden Baby Program, we work closely with pregnant mothers and young children to identify and address malnutrition early, ensuring they receive the care, nutrition, and attention they need to grow healthy.

At our Gandhi Nagar centre in Trichy, mothers and children are supported not just through nutrition kits, but through continuous monitoring, guidance, and conversations that build awareness around health, breastfeeding, and wellbeing.

What stood out most was the space created for mothers to come together, to learn, share their experiences, and support one another.

Because when a mother is supported, a child’s future becomes stronger.

Across Vanavil’s After School Centres, Children’s Home, and Child Protection Program, 66 students are stepping into their 10th and 12th board exams this year.

Behind each of them is a journey, of showing up, staying consistent, and believing that education can take them forward.

Science Day at Vanavil was filled with curiosity, excitement, and the joy of discovering how the world works.

From magnets that push and pull, to understanding how plants drink water, how sound travels, and how wind can create electricity, our students didn’t just learn science, they experienced it with their own hands.

These moments of learning by doing help children ask questions, think freely, and grow in confidence.

Because when curiosity is encouraged early, learning becomes something they carry for life.

A few days away from routine.
A few hours to learn, reflect, laugh, and simply be together.

Vanavil’s Annual Staff Retreat at Mahabalipuram brought 29 team members together for meaningful conversations, creative workshops, strategy discussions, games, and shared moments of bonding.

From learning through nature-based art, to questioning single stories about nomadic communities, to shaping Vanavil’s vision for the years ahead, the retreat became a space to pause, reconnect, and move forward with renewed energy.

The journey also included exploring Mahabalipuram’s rich heritage, recognising long-serving team members, and celebrating 20 years of Vanavil with gratitude and pride.

Because behind every program, every classroom, and every community effort, there is a team that keeps showing up, learning together, and growing stronger.

When children raise their voices for dignity, safety, and equality, it reminds us that change does not always begin in big rooms or policies. Sometimes, it begins on small village streets, with young hearts that already understand what fairness should feel like.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, students of Vanavil Nursery School walked together in an awareness rally, carrying messages that called for freedom from child marriage, safety for girls, and equal opportunities for women.

Their steps were small, but their message was powerful. Because when awareness begins in childhood, the future begins to change quietly.

Protection is not only about keeping children safe.
It is also about giving them the space to laugh, run, play, and feel free.

During the half-yearly break, our Child Protection Program brought together children from Sellur and Neelapadi for days filled with games, movement, and shared joy. More than 80 children showed up, cheering for one another, celebrating small wins, and simply enjoying what childhood should feel like.

Moments like these matter deeply.
Because when children feel seen, encouraged, and supported, confidence begins to grow quietly within them.

For us, these are not just sports events.
They are reminders that safe childhoods must also be happy childhoods.

The meeting marked an important beginning toward coordinated efforts to ensure the safety and secure future of children.

Some conversations don’t stay in rooms. They move into streets, systems, and the lives of children who need them the most.

On 17th February, Vanavil brought together voices that don’t always sit at the same table, community leaders, government officials, local businesses, and on-ground organisations, all with one shared intent: to end child begging in Velankanni.

Because this is not just about children on the streets. It’s about what pushes them there, gaps in protection, in awareness, in accountability.

And when those gaps are acknowledged together, solutions begin to take shape.

From forming a dedicated committee to public awareness, to working with schools and local systems, this is where change starts to look real. Not in statements, but in decisions people are willing to stand by.

This is what standing with children truly means. Not just care, but action. Not just concern, but responsibility. And this is just the beginning.

They simply keep showing up, year after year, quietly strengthening the places where children learn and grow.

For the past four years, Komatsu Ltd. has been one of those partners for Vanavil Nursery and Primary School, supporting our classrooms with essential learning materials and standing beside our children’s journey.

This February, that support grew into something even more special with the introduction of a Smart Class at our school, opening new ways for our students to explore, understand, and imagine the world around them.

Behind every classroom that continues to thrive, there are people who choose to care.

Sometimes change begins with something very simple, a conversation.

In Vadalur, we noticed that several college students were slowly drifting away from their studies. To understand what was happening, Vanavil brought together students and parents from Vengatkuppam and Kullanchavadi villages for a small but important meeting.

During the discussion, students openly shared the challenges they were facing, family circumstances, loss of motivation, and the struggle of studying in English.

What mattered most was what followed.

One student, Vignesh, has already decided to return to college, and we are continuing to work with four other students to help them resume their education. The students also expressed interest in attending weekly Sunday English classes so they can feel more confident in their studies.

Moments like these remind us that sometimes the path back to education does not begin with a big intervention; it begins with listening, encouragement, and someone believing that every student deserves another chance.
