district has carried Magizh Mutram into the Gram Sabha.

For the 2 October Gram Sabha, student leaders across Tirunelveli took their schools' needs to their own panchayats.

More than 25 schools participated. Students spoke, panchayat leaders listened, and in Kodarangulam, one request had already led to action.

But the significance goes beyond one school.

Students experienced what it means to identify a problem, raise it through a formal platform, and see their community respond. That is student agency in practice, and a glimpse of what local governance can look like when it makes space for student voice.

We thank the District Collector, Thiru. Anand Mohan, the Chief Education Officer, Thiru. Sivakumar, and the panchayat leaders for modelling what a safe, child-centred community can look like.

Through our District Education Empowerment Programme (DEEP), Vidhya Vidhai Foundation works alongside district administrations to strengthen government school education.

We're proud to celebrate Vidhya Meenambal, our Director, who is on a different kind of track.

At the District Athletics Meet in today, she won second place in both the 100m and 200m races, bringing home two medals.

In early 2025, Vidhya took up athletics while continuing her work on student agency in Tamil Nadu. Training became part of every day, alongside every other passion of hers.

Leaders today are rarely allowed to be beginners. She chose to be one, and kept showing up. Congratulations, Vidhya. The State meet is next.

Every conversation about a child's future eventually splits into two definitions of "ready."

One is calibrated to the world coming: the skills, the technology, the pace of change. The other is calibrated to the child: what they value, what they want their success to mean, how they want to impact the people and world around them. Isn't that what we call dignity?

We're at a point where these can't be treated as separate conversations anymore. A child's readiness for the world and a child's dignity have to be valued as equally significant, weighed together, not one after the other. They're the same design question, asked at once.

That's exactly where ROOTS begins this year. This Design for Education conclave by Vidhya Vidhai moves to Coimbatore for three days to design for every child's dignity and future together.

What does it take to build an education ecosystem where classroom experience and system-level change come together?
At a recent panel discussion with Teach For India Chennai and Madhi Foundation, Vidhya Meenambal, Director, Vidhya Vidhai Foundation, reflected on Tamil Nadu's evolving education ecosystem and the possibilities ahead.

Vidhya also shared how her experience as a Teach For India Fellow continues to shape her perspective. Being in the classroom and working closely with students gave her a grounded understanding of what happens in schools, a lens that continues to add value when thinking about education programmes and systems at scale.

Looking ahead, we hope to see greater alignment, deeper collaboration and shared approaches across the ecosystem, creating sustained impact for students.

The opportunity now is to build on the experience, ideas and partnerships already around us, together.

We are happy to congratulate Mr. C Soundarajan, Headmaster of Panchayat Union Middle School, Kottarakudi from Nagapattinam district on receiving the Dr. Radhakrishnan Award 2025-26, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department's award for outstanding teachers from the Honourable Education Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. A. Rajmohan.

Mr. Soundarajan is known for paying attention to small patterns and asking the right questions to break them. When the same group of children showed up to lead the morning assembly, he paused to ask 'Who hasn't spoken?'. Small actions like these enabled opportunity for all children in his school to engage and lead assemblies.

He was one among the 12 member cohort of School Leadership and Management (SLAM) course, a hybrid leadership development journey for school leaders and aspiring teacher leaders by Vidhya Vidhai.
