Field to Climate Action: Building the Foundation for Agricultural Carbon Accounting!
On 6th June 2026, SM-PACT India Foundation and SwitchON Foundation jointly conducted a sample Carbon Baseline Survey with five progressive farmers in Hanskhali Block, Nadia District, West Bengal, marking an important first step toward developing a scientifically robust agricultural carbon accounting and soil carbon enhancement model.
The field exercise involved farmer consultations and farm assessments to validate a carbon footprint framework covering agricultural practices, resource use, soil carbon, and climate-smart farming opportunities.
This pilot initiative forms part of a broader vision to establish an agricultural carbon baseline, promote regenerative farming practices, strengthen soil carbon enhancement, and create a pathway toward net-zero agriculture and future carbon finance opportunities for smallholder farmers.
The active participation of farmers and the joint technical efforts of both organizations demonstrate how data, science, and local knowledge can drive resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.
We thank all participating farmers and local stakeholders for their valuable time, insights, and commitment to climate-resilient agriculture.
