I only share adoption appeals of select NGOs, rescuers whom I know personally, have had the experience of working with and am thoroughly aware of their adoption formalities, protocol and the kind of care they take of the animals they’ve put for adoption. And most importantly they FOLLOW UP. They don’t just give them away and forget about them, their well being.
Their animals have gone through physical and behavioural assessments which means they are able to pick families accordingly keeping in my mind the best interests and safety of both the animals, the families.
Sharing adoption posts Mindlessly, of people who don’t have any of this going on is dangerous. Imagine a dog who isn’t comfortable around other dogs or kids for instance being sent away to a home with kids, other dogs already overwhelmed from rescue, rehabilitation and settling into a new home. Imagine the kind of stress and danger it puts the dog and others in that household? What of dogs having unknown medical health issues being sent to people, places who can’t manage them. so many hoarders, people who don’t spay and nueter also seem to be using adoption to get rid of litters.
Adoption is far from giving away animals like free phamplets which is unfortunately what most people have started doing. It’s not as easy as putting a fancy post on IG and getting people to share. It’s difficult work and a lot of it. It should be done professionally only. And so support those of us who do! Do not encourage miscreants and give them the platform to misuse animals or get rid of them. Be responsible 🙏🏻
