An Organisation dedicated for Community Development

SNEHA started in 1999 Support for the poor and vulnerable in order to improve their economic status, natural resource management, education, health and sanitation. Social mobilisation to build and strengthen people’s organisations and assist in the training and capacity building of organisations at various levels.Improvements in the existing credit delivery system in order to empower the underprivileged sections of society, particularly in rural areas.

In Mysore and Nanjangud taluk, across our project villages, team SNEHA has been driving ground-level action to build healthier, self-reliant communities:
🔹 Financial Literacy for Village Women: Empowering rural women with essential money management, budgeting, savings, and knowledge of government schemes—giving them financial independence and a stronger voice in household and community decision-making.
🔹 Capacity Building for Local Governance: Conducting specialized workshops on Solid & Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) and Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) for Gram Panchayat members to strengthen sustainable rural sanitation practices.
🔹 Hygiene & Sanitation for Children: Engaging school students with interactive sessions on liquid waste management and proper handwashing hygiene—complete with live, hands-on demonstrations!

🌱Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0 | Growing a Greener Future 🌿

On the occasion of the birthday of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Gaja Sanrakshana team participated in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0” plantation campaign on 17th September across Bantala Range, Angul Forest Division and Sambalpur Sadar Range, Sambalpur Forest Division.

The campaign encourages planting a tree in honour of one’s mother, symbolising the nurturing, caring and life-giving role of a mother while contributing to a greener and healthier environment.

Building a Greener Future with Our Young Change-Makers!
An impactful awareness and training program was conducted for the students of Government Higher Primary School, Sujjaluru (T. Narasipura taluk) as part of the Green Temple initiative.
A total of 44 enthusiastic primary students (17 boys and 27 girls) participated in interactive learning sessions focused on:
• Personal hygiene & home cleanliness
• Water conservation techniques & proper toilet usage
• Segregating waste & assisting family members in waste disposal
• Setting up kitchen gardens to grow fresh vegetables, leaves, and fruits at home
This initiative was successfully organized by SNEHA with great support from ITC Mission Sunehra Kal

A Thread of Respect, A Bond of Gratitude!
Celebrating the hands that keep our communities clean & healthy!
On Raksha Bandhan, a special programme was organised in collaboration with Taluk Panchayat, Nanjangud, ITC & SNEHA to honour our Sanitary & Swachhagrahi Workers.
Highlights included:
• Heartfelt Rakhi tying ceremony.
• Joyful selfie stand & fun activities
• Lively musical chairs session
Informative sessions on government schemes, banking facilities & essential services by representatives from Labour Dept, Health Dept, SBI, Taluk Panchayat, ITC & SNEHA.
With an outreach of 345 members across 3 taluks, the programme celebrated the dedication of our sanitation champions and strengthened the message of a clean, healthy & sustainable community.

🤝 Capacity Building Session for VHSNC members at Hulimavu GP — strengthening health, sanitation, nutrition, community participation, and coordination with Gram Panchayat & frontline workers.
✨ These initiatives are building stronger foundations for financial awareness, local level planning, and healthier, more empowered communities.

Celebrating World Elephant Day 2026: Inspiring 10,000+ Young Minds for Coexistence! 🌿
This World Elephant Day, the Gaja Sanrakshana Team brought together thousands of young changemakers across Odisha to champion Human-Elephant Coexistence!
In collaboration with the Forest Department, Government of Odisha, and with the support of all four Tata Power Discoms, we celebrated across 6 key locations and 36 strategic schools reaching over 10,296 students.
Here is a glimpse of the week-long celebration leading up to the grand finale on August 12th:
🎨 Creative Competitions: 2,360 students showcased their vision for wildlife conservation through Essay Writing and Drawing & Painting competitions.
💡 Interactive Learning: 1,625 students joined the host school celebrations, with 178 more taking home prizes in on-the-spot quiz contests!
🏆 Recognizing Excellence: 216 school champions were honoured with certificates and prizes during the main events!
Key officials from the Forest Department and Tata Power Discoms graced the occasion across all six host locations, delivering inspiring addresses and encouraging our youth to become future guardians of our gentle giants.
Together, we are building a safer, more compassionate future where humans and elephants thrive side by side. 💚🌱

Building Stronger Communities Through Awareness, Knowledge & Collective Action!
As part of LHI Phase II, the SNEHA NGO team successfully conducted a series of impactful training and awareness programmes:
🔹 Financial Literacy Training for Self-Help Group (SHG) members – strengthening financial awareness and livelihood opportunities.
🔹 Cascade Awareness Sessions on Rural Solid Waste Management for school students – inspiring young minds to become ambassadors of environmental responsibility.
🔹 Capacity-Building Training for waste collectors and SHGs – promoting scientific waste management practices and sustainable community participation.
These initiatives were made possible with the invaluable support of ITC Mission Sunerakal, working together towards sustainable communities and informed livelihoods.

Gaja Haladi : From Pilot to Promise
At the District Convergence Workshop in Dhenkanal (Dec 2024), as part of the crop diversification plan, turmeric, locally known as Haladi, was prioritised as it is not preferred by elephants, would reduce crop depredation and enhance farmer incomes.
On a pilot basis, the Gaja Sanrakshana team supported 18 farmers with supply of turmeric rhizomes and training. By early 2026, farmers in Kharchuli village harvested over 60 quintals of high-quality turmeric.
To amplify this success, the product was branded as “Gaja Haladi” and officially launched on 17 June 2026 in the presence of officials from the Forest Department, Horticulture Department, Tata Power Odisha, SNEHA NGO, and local administration. Over 100 villagers including Women Self Help Group members attended the event and pledged to expand turmeric farming. The Horticulture department also responded positively by supplying more rhizomes during the event itself.
Gaja Haladi is more than a crop — it’s a community led solution for coexistence, resilience, and sustainable livelihood.

A workshop on Human-Elephant Conflict (HEC) was organized by Tata Steel, Dhenkanal, in collaboration with the Dhenkanal Forest Division at Dudurkote, for media professionals from Hindol and Rasol.
The workshop aimed to enhance understanding of the HEC scenario, promote responsible reporting, and encourage media support in conflict mitigation efforts. Representatives from SNEHA-NGO, including the Project-in-Charge, Field Officer, and Field Biologist, shared insights on elephant behaviour and ecology, and highlighted the role of positive media reporting in assisting the Forest Department.
The programme was attended by over 35 media professionals, officials from Tata Steel's Corporate Affairs and Corporate Communication teams, the Hindol Range Officer and the SNEHA-NGO team.
