Launch of LHI Phase 2 at Nanjangudu Taluk | The LHI Phase 2 programme was formally launched at Nanjangudu Taluk in the presence of MLA Shri.Darshan Druva Narayan, Shri Jerald Rajesh - Executive Officer, Mr Manoj - Senior Programme Executive (ITC MSK), Shri.Ramasamy Krishnan, Executive Director (SNEHA NGO), and Mrs Savitha, Zilla Panchayat SBM representative.
The event witnessed the participation of over 100 members, including Panchayat leaders, PDOs, GP staff, and NGO staff, marking a significant step towards collective action and sustainable outcomes.

Human Elephant Conflict Mitigation and Elephant Conservation Awareness Campaign
On special request from DFO-Deogarh, our Gajasanrakshana Team conducted the HEC Awareness Programme at Bramhnipali & Baradanali villages (Reamal Range, Deogarh Division).
Diverse groups of people– villagers, SHG members, Sarpanch, VSS members, TPWODL staff & forest officials – joined hands to learn and discuss safe coexistence with elephants.

A PRA programme was held at Hediyala Grama Panchayat, Nanjangud Taluk, bringing together the SNEHA team, villagers, and Panchayat members with the support of ITC Mission Sunehra Kal. The session focused on identifying key challenges in sanitation and waste management, spreading awareness, and shaping a joint action plan to improve solid & liquid waste management, sanitation facilities, and village infrastructure. 🚮💧 Together, we move one step closer towards a cleaner, healthier, and sustainable village! 🌍🌱

The Gaja Sanrakshana team visited Jhadubereni and Nua villages to hand over ho***rs for early warning alerts. Also they trained the villagers on using the Gaja Sanrakshana App.
With these tools, communities are now better prepared to learn elephant movement to protect themselves and their crop.

The Tata Steel Foundation organized a workshop in Bhubaneswar, where the Gaja Sanrakshana team was invited as guest speakers to share our ongoing project activities with community participation. The Chief Guest, Sri Sudhanshu Sekhar Khora, Chief Executive of Regional Plant Resource Centre, appreciated the Gaja Sanrakshana project, recalling his association with it during his tenure as RCCF, Angul Circle.

Combing and protection operation was conducted at Kantamegha Reserve Forest in close coordination with the Forest Department and Gaja Sanrakshana team. The activity covered Talgarh GP, Khinda Section, Kantamegha Beat (8 & 9), Bantala Range, Angul Block.
The operation aimed at ensuring the safety of both wildlife and local communities, strengthening conservation efforts in the region.

World Elephant Day was observed with great enthusiasm at Kiruguru School, Ponnampet High School, and Ponnampet PU College . As part of the program, students were introduced to the significance of World Elephant Day and detailed information was shared about elephant behaviour, their habitat, and the importance of coexistence between humans and elephants. Participants were also briefed on the innovative Elephant Tracker App, a useful tool designed to monitor elephant movement and enhance safety in elephant-prone areas. The event, organised by SNEHA NGO with the support of SUCDEN Coffee Ltd., witnessed participation from both school and college students, drawing a total of 317 attendees.

Students from government schools across the villages of Maralu, Immavuhundi, Tandavapura, Kempisiddanahundi, Devanuru, Horalavadi, Varuna, Bhugathahally, Allaturu, Thummanerele, and Hullahalli took part in a special Raksha Bandhan celebration. As part of the Gaja Sanrakshana Project in Odisha, students of Bargonia High School in the Bantala Range area took a solemn oath to protect wildlife and preserve nature, as part of World Elephant Day. The program aimed to raise awareness about elephant behaviour, fostering respect and empathy towards these gentle giants. Students learned about the importance of coexisting peacefully with elephants and safeguarding their natural habitats.
