Randhoni Pagal is a short-grain heritage rice native to West Bengal.
It is known for its intense, lingering aroma, hence the name ‘pagal’!

A lesser-known variety, but we beg to differ.
Among India’s many scented grains, this rare rice stands out for its bold fragrance and beautiful flavour.

At Spirit of the Earth, conserving and celebrating such rare varieties is at the heart of what we do
keeping their stories alive, one grain at a time.

Moirang Phou (pronounced Moi-rung-foo) is a rare variety deeply rooted in Manipur’s heritage, Moirang Phou is more than just a sticky rice, it’s a grain with a story.

Moirang is best known for the Keibul Lamjao Conservation Area, home to the world’s only floating national park and a tentative UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Meitei, “Phou” (pronounced Fau) means paddy or unhusked rice so Moirang Phou quite literally refers to the paddy once cultivated in Moirang!

Traditionally grown across Moirang and nearby towns of Bishnupur district, this variety has now become a rarity even in its own homeland. We are grateful and proud to have conserved this variety at our farm in Manjakkudi.

Aromatic, naturally sticky, and beautifully versatile, it stands apart from the sticky rice most of us know.

A small grain with a big story. One we are proud to share and grow at Spirit Of The Earth🙏

At the heart of Manjakkudi, where the air carries the whispers of tradition and the soil breathes life into sustainable practices, Swami Dayananda Farms stands as a beacon of hope and knowledge. Recently, this serene haven became a gathering space for farmers, where wisdom took root through an inspiring training session.

Guided by thought leaders and enriched by the expertise of eminent speakers, the event blossomed into a tapestry of shared insights and collective learning. Pre-Harvest

As the sun rises over our fields, we reflect on a mission that drives Spirit of the Earth – to revive and preserve the timeless treasures of traditional grains.

Our philosophy is simple yet profound: to ensure these heirloom grains are not just remembered but relished by future generations. From their taste and flavor to the wisdom they carry, these grains are a bridge to a rich agricultural heritage.

Your belief in this mission has transformed our journey – from harvesting a modest 10 kg to nurturing 1 ton of these precious grains. Join us as we step into the harvest season, celebrating the culmination of care, tradition, and sustainability.

In the heart of our verdant fields, where the golden grains of heritage rice sway gently with the breeze, resides a sanctuary dedicated to the true custodians of our land—the desi cows. Each year, as the sun embarks on its northward journey, we celebrate Maatu Pongal, a day that honors these noble creatures whose toil and spirit sustain natural farming.

Our founder, a visionary devoted to preserving the essence of traditional agriculture, has established a haven where these indigenous cows are not only protected but cherished. In this sacred space, each cow is bestowed with a unique name, reflecting its individuality and the deep bond we share with them. From the gentle Lakshmi, whose calm demeanor brings peace to the herd, to the spirited Nandi, whose vigor invigorates our fields, every cow plays a pivotal role in our farming ecosystem.

Their contributions transcend the physical labor of plowing fields; they enrich the soil with their offerings, fostering a fertile environment where our heirloom seeds can flourish. This symbiotic relationship embodies the principles of natural farming, where harmony with nature begets abundance.

On Maatu Pongal, we adorn our bovine companions with garlands of vibrant flowers, their horns polished to a lustrous sheen, symbolizing our gratitude and reverence. The air fills with the melodic strains of traditional songs, narrating tales of their valor and the prosperity they usher into our lives. It is a day of celebration, reflection, and an affirmation of our commitment to sustainable agriculture.

Through the tireless efforts of our founder, the goshala stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of desi cows in Indian agriculture. It is a living narrative of preservation, respect, and the seamless integration of tradition with modernity. As we honor these heroes of natural farming, we are reminded of the intricate tapestry of life, where every thread, human and bovine alike, is integral to the fabric of our shared existence.

Honoring the gentle heroes who nurture our fields and our hearts!

As Pongal draws near and the air brims with joy and gratitude, let us explore the tale of an extraordinary rice variety that carries the essence of tradition—Adam Chini.

In the picturesque heartland of Uttar Pradesh, where the Ganges meanders through fertile soil, there exists a rice so enchanting in fragrance and flavor that it has become a treasure for generations. Known as Adam Chini, this rice is no ordinary grain—it is a jewel of Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, and Sonbhadra districts, a gift of nature cultivated with care by the hands of dedicated farmers.

The name itself carries a story. The grains, small and delicate like sugar crystals, are believed to have inspired the name Adam Chini—‘chini’ meaning sugar in Hindi. But this rice is far more than its appearance. Its cooking is almost magical, taking but moments to transform into a fragrant, fluffy delight that fills the kitchen with its sweet aroma.

Adam Chini’s unique qualities have made it a part of the fabric of celebrations in these regions. A favorite in feasts and festivals, it brings a richness to traditional dishes that few other rice varieties can match. Its aroma lingers, evoking a sense of warmth and comfort, connecting families over meals that celebrate the harvest and the bonds of community.

Imagine your Pongal feast graced with the delicate grains of Adam Chini. Every bite is an experience—a connection to the land where it grew, the farmers who nurtured it, and the traditions it upholds. It’s a taste of history and a celebration of the future, all in one.

This Pongal, as you prepare your special dishes, let Adam Chini take center stage. With its subtle sweetness and aromatic charm!
