Lichipuram: An Endless Creation
The Second Year, Third Month of the “Sweet Smile” Movement
Lichipuram—Muzaffarpur, the City of the World-Famous Shahi Litchi.
Once celebrated for its lush litchi orchards and fragrant landscape, Muzaffarpur is today confronting the gradual loss of its unique identity. Unplanned urban expansion and indiscriminate felling of litchi trees have not only disturbed the ecological balance but have also affected the livelihoods of thousands of families who have long depended on this precious heritage. Ironically, the wood of the litchi tree—once a symbol of prosperity—is now often reduced to firewood, leaving its artistic and cultural potential unexplored.
Inspired by the vision of “Local Pride, Global Ride,” I had the privilege of meeting master wood-carving artist Mr. Om Singh, whose remarkable craftsmanship combines traditional artistry with modern CNC technology.
During our discussion, I encouraged him to transform discarded litchi wood into meaningful works of art that celebrate the cultural identity of Muzaffarpur. These creations could feature iconic local symbols such as the Shahi Litchi, traditional village life, the Ghughua, the nostalgic Bioscope, folk traditions, and the rich cultural heritage of the region. Rather than being treated as waste, litchi wood can become elegant souvenirs, artistic décor, commemorative gifts, and cultural ambassadors carrying the story of Muzaffarpur to the world.
Our shared vision is beautifully expressed in the campaign motto:
“May every visitor to Lichipuram return home carrying a meaningful product that reflects the spirit and identity of this land.”
When local resources are united with the imagination and skill of local artisans, Muzaffarpur’s sweet smile can transcend geographical boundaries and earn a distinguished place on the global cultural map.
Lichipuram is more than a campaign. It is a people's movement dedicated to safeguarding nature, preserving cultural heritage, generating sustainable livelihoods, and strengthening local identity. It is an invitation to communities, artists, institutions, and citizens to work together in transforming heritage into hope and creativity into sustainable development.
Mr. Om Singh expressed his commitment to developing a collection of Lichi Culture Products in the near future and showcasing them prominently in his showroom, demonstrating how local craftsmanship can preserve heritage while inspiring future generations.

The Second Year, The Second Month of “Meetha Muskuraiye”
In the cultural landscape of India, a saree is far more than a garment.
It is a canvas of memory, identity, craftsmanship and human emotion—a form through which generations have expressed their stories, traditions and aspirations.
Today, a new chapter is being imagined through Lichipuram Art.
With her exceptional craftsmanship, artistic sensitivity and creative imagination, Komal Nathani Ji, a gifted daughter of Saraswati, is creating a remarkable Lichipuram Art Saree for my daughter Deepika and Kunwar Sa Rohit.
This creation carries the possibility of becoming something more than a beautiful work of textile art. It represents an evolving cultural expression in which local identity is transformed into contemporary art without losing its emotional roots.
The vision behind Lichipuram Art has already inspired Nitu Tulsiyan Ji, Shweta Srivastava, Sujit Srivastava and several other artists to explore the litchi as a distinctive artistic symbol.
When a Saree Becomes a Living Memory
What makes this particular creation extraordinary is the artistic rendering of the portrait of the husband and wife on the pallu of the saree.
In this way, the saree becomes more than an object of clothing.

Lichipuram…
A sweet city in Muzaffarpur, Bihar—
a place whose identity was once inseparable from the fragrance of its legendary litchi orchards.
Here, summer mornings once awakened to the delicate sweetness of litchis, while evenings breathed beneath the green canopy of orchards, wrapped in the quiet joy of nature.
But time changed.
The litchi trees began to disappear.
The orchards began to vanish.
And with them, something far greater than greenery was being lost.
The environment began to lose its breath.
Livelihoods and opportunities began to diminish.
And, slowly but surely, the distinctive identity of the city itself began to fade.
From this pain emerged a voice.
From this concern emerged a dream.
And from this dream was born—
The Lichipuram Cultural Renaissance Campaign.
For us, litchi is far more than a fruit.
It is the sweetness of our soil,
the fragrance of our memories,
the expression of our culture,
and the living heritage of our collective identity.
That is why the journey of Lichipuram is no longer confined to orchards and fields.
It is now finding its way into art, craftsmanship, imagination and creation.
As a part of this journey, we made a heartfelt request to a local handicraft artist:
“Let your gifted hands transform the litchi into a work of art—
a creation in which the sweetness of our city can be seen and felt.
Let people look beyond the fruit and discover the Lichipuram that lives within it.”
Perhaps a tiny litchi, shaped by an artist’s hands,
can tell the story of an entire city.
Perhaps a litchi woven into clay, colour, thread and craftsmanship
can give a voice to the silent pain of our disappearing orchards.
Perhaps art can preserve what time threatens to erase.
And perhaps, through creativity,
the sweetness of Lichipuram can once again travel beyond boundaries
and find its place in hearts across the world.
Our dream is simple, yet profound—
May the litchi continue to thrive on our trees.
May its sweetness continue to live in our memories.
And may its spirit become immortal through art and creativity.
Because—
**Litchi is not merely a fruit.
Litchipuram is not merely a place.**
The litchi is the soul of Lichipuram.
One litchi—a thousand expressions.

Litchis Crafted from Old Newspapers
Lichipuram (Muzaffarpur), a city renowned for its unique identity through litchis, is moving forward with a firm commitment to preserving its heritage. Over the years, the continuous felling of litchi orchards has not only harmed the environment but has also threatened the region's identity, culture, and the livelihoods of thousands of people.
To transform this challenge into an opportunity, the Lichipuram Cultural Renaissance Campaign was launched. Every day, this movement brings together new people and inspires innovations rooted in art, culture, and local resources, with the vision of realizing "Local Pride, Global Ride" and spreading the message of a "Sweet Smile" to create positive energy across the world.
As part of this inspiring journey, during a recent event I requested several artists to dedicate their creative talents to the city of litchis. Responding to this call, artist Sunil Kumar created beautiful litchi and litchi-cluster artworks using recycled old newspapers. These creations are much more than works of art—they are powerful symbols of environmental conservation, recycling, and a deep commitment to preserving our cultural identity.
Let us all come together to elevate the identity, nature, culture, and creativity of Lichipuram to new heights.

Lichipuram: An Infinite Creation
The second year, second month of the "Sweet Smile" campaign 😊
In Lichipuram, Muzaffarpur — the city known for its litchi heritage — nearly 70 to 80 percent of litchi trees have continuously disappeared over the past years due to extensive cutting. As a result, environmental pollution has increased, economic losses have occurred, employment opportunities have declined, and our cultural identity and heritage have come under threat.
Amid these challenges, the Lichipuram Cultural Renaissance Campaign was initiated with the aim of protecting our land, identity, and collective heritage.
This campaign does not view litchi merely as a fruit; rather, it considers it an inseparable part of our cultural legacy, memories, and way of life. Our vision is to make litchi visible in every aspect and every color of our lives — to sing about it, celebrate it, wear it, and spread sweet smiles along with its sweetness.
The campaign is continuously moving forward toward realizing the dream of "Local Pride, Global Ride."
As part of this journey, Ms. Komal Nathani, a daughter of Saraswati and a talented rug artist associated with the campaign, has created a beautiful circular foot mat 👣 for a bed, inspired by the shape of a litchi through the medium of rug art.
This creation is not merely an artistic product; it is a living symbol of Lichipuram's identity, creativity, and cultural renaissance.
The sweetness of litchi is now moving beyond taste to become a part of art, culture, and lifestyle.

Second Year of the "Sweet Smile" Campaign, Day 19 😊
To prevent the indiscriminate cutting of litchi trees, preserve the cultural heritage associated with litchi, and promote sweetness and smiles in society, the Lichipuram Cultural Renaissance Campaign was initiated.
As part of this campaign, we requested Mrs. Komal Nathani, a creative Rug Art artist and a daughter of Goddess Saraswati, to create litchi-inspired artworks through her artistic skills. The objective is to enrich the art and culture of Lichipuram and realize the dream of "Local Pride, Global Pride" by spreading the sweetness, development, and joyful spirit of Lichipuram.
Today, she has created beautiful litchi-themed decorative showpieces made from rug art to adorn the curtains in her home. These creations are not merely pieces of art; they symbolize the sweetness, creativity, and cultural identity of Lichipuram.
Through her artwork, she has beautifully expressed her affection and love for litchi. Such creative initiatives will undoubtedly help take the cultural heritage of Lichipuram to new heights, connect younger generations with their roots, and raise awareness about environmental conservation.

Lichipuram: An Infinite Creation
The Pain of Not Having a Live latchi Farewell Song, Yet Still Smiling Sweetly
11th Day of the Second Year of the “Sweet Smile” Campaign 😊
This year, the latchi harvesting season in the lychee-producing regions of Muzaffarpur has concluded completely, nearly ten days earlier than usual. Orchard owners, farmers, traders, and laborers who worked tirelessly in the fields are bidding farewell to the season with the traditional Bhoj-Bhat community feast. This marks not only the end of a harvest but also the conclusion of a cultural festival filled with hard work, cooperation, and sweetness.
The Lichipuram Cultural Renaissance Campaign had sincerely hoped that just as a new tradition was initiated this year with a welcome song performed by folk artist Sunil Bhai and his team at the beginning of the harvesting season, the lychee season would also be bid farewell through folk songs. Discussions were held with Vivek Jha Ji, Neeraj Ravi Ji, and several other artist friends regarding this initiative. However, as lychee trader Kundan Gupta could not inform us in advance about the harvesting schedule, and due to the pre-scheduled commitments of the artists as well as my own illness, organizing a live Lychee Farewell Song this year was not possible. The campaign deeply regrets this missed opportunity.
Under these circumstances, and to ensure that this emerging tradition does not break, a small effort is being made to present a Lychee Farewell Song with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is hoped that in the coming years, more folk artists, writers, musicians, and lovers of culture will join this initiative and help take the rich folk-cultural traditions of Lichipuram to new heights.
Our dream is that Lichipuram should be recognized not only for its taste and agricultural production but also for its folk culture, folk music, traditional customs, and warm hospitality. When visitors from across the country and the world come here to experience these vibrant living traditions, the vision of “Local Pride, Global Ride” will become even more meaningful, spreading not only the sweetness of lychees but also sweet smiles far and wide.
Let us bid farewell to the lychee season with the confidence that it will return next year with renewed sweetness, fresh energy, and countless new smiles. 🍃🍒😊

Respected Guru Dr. Mahendra Madhukar Ji is among the foremost sources of inspiration whose guidance, blessings, and intellectual support played a significant role in shaping and directing the creation of the book “Lichipuram: An Endless Creation.”
When the Lichipuram Cultural Renaissance Campaign was in its initial phase, Guruji was the first person to say, “Suresh Ji, you are leading an ideological revolution.” These words continue to inspire and energize every step of this campaign.
The very first congratulatory message for the book was also received from Guruji. After the publication of the book, I had the privilege of personally presenting the first copy to him at his residence on 21 May 2026 as a mark of respect and gratitude.
It is especially noteworthy that Guruji’s valuable suggestions played an important role in conceptualizing “Anhad Shubh Srijan Samvad” (Endless Auspicious Creative Dialogue) as well as in shaping the title of the book, “Lichipuram: An Endless Creation.” His guidance inspired the campaign to evolve beyond a cultural initiative into a movement of positive awareness, creativity, and social transformation.
Deeply impressed by the campaign, Guruji also planted a litchi sapling in his own premises, symbolizing his support and commitment to the vision of Lichipuram.
