DIS Excelsior

DIS Excelsior A Philanthropic Institution providing quality education to the underprivileged. The people of Tirhut are largely illiterate. It is known for poor governance.

• The Daudi International School (DIS) helps provide a quality education, second to none, to the have-nots, an underprivileged children of very low socio-economic group; come from the poorest segment of the society; belong to all religious background who are the most neglected lot as none is taking care.

•The school is located in the North Bihar, India. The Indian State of Bihar is known as a po

or and overpopulated region of Eastern India. The school is situated at Muzaffarpur. it is one of 38 districts of the residual bihar left behind after its partition and the third biggest town of Bihar. The creamy bihar (now called jarkhand) has been carved out from the northern regions of state of Bihar, on 15 November 2000,. It was located in the soda godown chowk, the remotest corner of the mohalla called chandwara where in and around mostly poorest of the poor people live in their make-shift hutments and now it has been shifted to historic Shafi Manzil, the epicenter of the first non-cooperation movement in the Tirhut.

•It not only provides them free education; give the best books, copies, pencils available etc free of cost but also gives them incentives. The biggest attraction to the parents is to send their wards to this day care centre is that their kids get the nutritious break-fast as well as mid-day meal. North Bihar is known for its poor governance; government states that education is free but the quality of education and health care is in fact, on paper; not a reality. When we opened the Montessori school in 2004 for the children of the slum dwellers , we were hoping that the school system of the government would eventually take over. But that didn't happen even after the lapse of six years of its inception, though it has picked up a little under the new government. The government funded schools are poorly managed. That's why they have no future.

•The pressure of the socio-economic conditions on the poor children is such that their drop-out rate from this school too is 20% because the hapless parents consider their sons as their earning hands and want boys should start doing some petty jobs as early as possible. The conditions of the village girls are even worse because the parents get them married as soon as they attain puberty. Child marriages are common amongst lower classes of the society. What to do about 160 kids (majority of them are girls) who have the best of education in the world bar none?; Can we abandon them ? We can not afford the education of those kids on our own for long; as we can finance them up to the 7th grade, but beyond that we are not in a position to pile on the financial burden. We have already spent significant amount of resources on them. This school is being funded by the family donation and we will not be able to continue beyond the 7th grade. We were naïve to think that the govt. will do it. Besides we just can not abandon those kids and leave them in lurch since all our efforts would go down the drain. Those kids have an enormous talent and intense desire to excel in life but the only thing they lack is the economic resources. The patron of the Daudi Welfare Trust , Dr. Imbesat Daudi says that the human potential is a terrible thing to waste and the economic deprivation is no excuse.
