Vasant Gupta knows what Lymphatic Filariasis can mean because he lives with it.

So when someone tells him they are unsure about taking MDA medicine, he isn’t just repeating an awareness message. He can speak from experience.
Today, he works alongside ASHA workers, answering residents’ questions, addressing their concerns and encouraging them to take preventive medication.

Building this kind of trust at the community level is an important part of the work supported by the Gates Foundation and its partners to advance the fight against lymphatic filariasis.

A disease that stays hidden.
A medicine that needs to be taken.
And a conversation that can make the difference.

For Rina Yadav and her Sahiyas, the answer is simple: Keep going.
Watch their fight against lymphatic filariasis.

You probably didn’t spot it at first.

That’s the thing about the world’s deadliest animal — it’s small enough to miss, yet capable of transmitting lymphatic filariasis, a disease that can change lives forever.

Through sustained efforts and strong partnerships, India is making steady progress towards eliminating lymphatic filariasis.

Anti-filaria medicine can travel from a supply chain to a doorstep. But consuming it can take something more: a conversation, an explanation, a little reassurance, and sometimes, a follow-up.

ASHAs, ANMs, AWWs and other frontline health workers are meeting communities where they are, addressing concerns and building the trust that turns prevention into action.

And together, these small conversations can make a big difference in the fight against lymphatic filariasis.

Helping farmers isn’t just about developing new tools—it’s about making sure people can use them when they need them most. We have to work together with government, researchers and farmers to turn those ideas into real world solutions.

Go behind the scenes with Senior Program Officer Nidhi Srinivas and see how she turns promising ideas into real-world impact.

By connecting nearly 9 million farmers across 30 districts of Odisha, the state’s digital agriculture support system is ensuring that trusted information and support are never far away. And as it continues to evolve with innovations like AI-powered voice-to-text, it is becoming even more accessible—helping more farmers connect with the information and services they need, when they need them.

Developed by the Government of Odisha, with support from the Gates Foundation and other partners, it’s an example of how collaboration at scale can strengthen livelihoods.

A farmer’s first response to a pest outbreak can make all the difference.

That’s why Odisha’s Emergency Response System connects farmers with experts within 48 hours, helping them identify the problem early and take the right action at the right time.

The result: a 94% reduction in pest-affected area.

This rapid response is especially important as new and foreign pest species enter agricultural ecosystems. These unfamiliar pests may not respond to the control methods farmers commonly use, making early identification and expert guidance essential.

As India celebrates its 80th , we celebrate the countless moments of progress that continue to move the nation forward.

The Gates Foundation is proud to partner with India on this journey — working together with governments and other organizations to build a healthier, fairer and more prosperous future for all.

For a smallholder farmer, timely decisions matter — especially when pests strike.

The sooner a pest sighting is reported, the sooner expert guidance can reach the field, helping protect not just one farm, but neighbouring ones too.

Here’s how the Government of Odisha, along with the Gates Foundation, is making that possible.

Pest outbreaks begin almost invisibly, with a single pest on a single plant. By the time the damage is obvious, the outbreak has already spread.

Watch how something so small can quietly grow into a threat that puts livelihoods at risk.
