Under-5 mortality at its lowest ever. 12 years of polio-free India. Maternal and neonatal tetanus eliminated.

This is what progress looks like when we follow through on every dose.
India’s national immunization schedule recommends 12 vaccines, each requiring 1-3 doses, to ensure full protection against 11 diseases including Polio, Tetanus, Measles, and Hepatitis B. These doses are meant to be administered at specific times from birth up to 16 years of age.

Today, India’s immunization system is stronger than ever, led by government programmes and supported by partners working to ensure children stay on track. At the Gates Foundation in India, we continue to work alongside the government and partners to strengthen this effort, helping ensure every child completes their immunization journey.

Month by month, dose by dose, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) use tools like these tracking bags to help children stay on track with their immunization schedules.

Behind each pocket is careful coordination, follow-up, and a health worker making sure protection doesn’t stop halfway.

The Gates Foundation partners with the government and other organizations to strengthen immunization efforts in India.

Could a bridge with missing sections ever get someone safely across? No.

An incomplete vaccination schedule works the same way, leaving a child without full protection.

Watch Dr. Arindam Ray, India Country Lead, Immunization & Surveillance at the Gates Foundation, explain why every dose matters, one block at a time.

No long-distance travel.
No waiting in queues.
Just a screen, a connection, and a doctor.

That’s what healthcare is starting to look like in India, even at the last mile.

Across some of the most remote districts, eSanjeevani has enabled over 282 million telemedicine consultations. More than 12 million of these consultations were supported by AI-assisted clinical decision tools, helping strengthen diagnosis support and improve access to timely care.

The Gates Foundation partners with the government and other organizations to deliver innovative and effective solutions that help bring quality healthcare closer to the people who need it most.
