An evening dedicated to Rasa — a feeling as form — inspired by Bharat Muni’s Natya Shastra, the remarkable ancient encyclopedic treatise on the arts that also holds a place of pride in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.

The evening unfolded through nuanced conversations on the application of the concepts of Rasa and Bhava across diverse artistic mediums — dance, theatre, literature, poetry, and cinema. It was an enriching discussion, naturally layered with contradictions and differing perspectives, all emerging from the lived experiences of distinguished voices: renowned Kathak exponent Shovana Narayan, powerful theatre personality Rama Pandey, Javed Akhtar — who needs no introduction — and acclaimed filmmaker Sumantra Ghosal.

The evening left the audience immersed in a sense of wonderment — an ehsaas that Rasa ultimately seeks to evoke. It also left behind an enduring question: what truly casts the spell of wonder — the creator or the craft?

The event was organised by in collaboration with .culture and Prime Securities.

On the occasion of World Museum Day, May18, 2026, INTACH Greater Mumbai chapter is honoured to share reflections from senior museum professionals across Mumbai on what museums are, and what they can become. We are deeply grateful that so many of our museum colleagues responded to our invitation to share their thoughts and perspectives.
Museums bridge memory and modernity, fostering dialogue, cultural empathy, and shared belonging. In an increasingly fragmented world, they preserve collective histories while engaging diverse communities across generations. At INTACH Mumbai, we believe museums are not only guardians of the past, but also catalysts for a more inclusive, conscious, and culturally connected future. .mumbai .n.more.art

Join us for RASA - In Conversation with Javed Akhtar, Shovana Narayan, Sumantra Ghosal
Moderated by Rama Pandey

INTACH Greater Mumbai Chapter, in Collaboration with Prime Securities, Trigen Wealth and G5A, invites you to a conversation that places the concept of Rasa - the theory of emotion, and Dhvani - the theory of form, not as academic concepts, but as lived experience.

This program is the third in our ongoing series reaffirming INTACH Greater Mumbai Chapter’s commitment to the performing arts and the Natyashastra.

Across poetry, Kathak and cinema, our speakers have each, in their distinct ways, spent a lifetime in dialogue with these foundational ideas.

Through this conversation, we open the floor to explore how these ideas breathe into their practice. How do they shape their relationship with audiences? How was a globalised contemporary socio-cultural landscape shifted, challenged or deepened their engagement with these ideas?

We hope this conversation is as much a revelation for you, the audience, as it is a reflection for the artist and their creations.

Looking forward to seeing you at the program.

This is by invitation only.
Date: Saturday, 16th May 2026
Time: 07.30 pm - 09.00 pm

Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, the University of Mumbai boasts of one of the most beautiful clock towers modeled after Big Ben in London. The architecture is in the neo-Gothic style and the interiors are decorated with some of the finest stained glass. This iconic structure is as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. The construction of the building was funded by Premchand Roychand, a Jain philanthropist. Sir
Cowasji Jehanghier Hall famously known as the Convocation Hall was also designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott and named after the Parsi philanthropist Sir Cowasji Jehangir who had funded its construction.

Both these Grade 1 Heritage structures of the University of Mumbai complex are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Hall has some fine woodwork and statuary but the most eye-catching is the beautiful circular stained glass window, with a design of the 12 Zodiac signs.
