The XRCVC was started in 2003 as an effort to ensure an inclusive environment at St. Xavier’s College, one of the most well-known educational institutions in the country, for its students with blindness and low vi

sion. Having created an inclusive set up for its own students, keeping with the college’s long tradition of creating social impact within the larger community, the XRCVC has today become a national advocacy and support centre for the blind and low vision across the city and the country. Xavier’s College, Mumbai is noted for having a nurturing atmosphere for those differentially challenged. With the initiative of Dr. Sam Taraporevala, we have also decided that our visually challenged students should not be on the wrong side of the digital divide and so we offer them the best of technological advances as a resource for development. We remain committed to giving the best to our students and even exploring possibilities of opening up the facilities to other colleges."

Can you truly understand accessibility… without experiencing it?

XRCVC recently facilitated our flagship Antarchakshu® sensitisation workshop at HSNC University, Mumbai — an immersive session designed to build empathy and awareness around visual impairment.

Through experiential activities like blindfolded tasks, sensory exercises, and sighted guiding techniques, participants explored what it means to navigate the world without sight — and more importantly, how small changes in mindset and behaviour can create meaningful inclusion.

💬 “Eyes give sight, but mindset gives vision.”

We’re glad to see institutions taking steps towards building more inclusive and accessible environments!

The world isn’t experienced the same way by everyone—and that’s okay. 💙

Autism isn’t something that needs to be “fixed.”
It’s a different way of seeing, feeling, processing, and interacting with the world.

For some, the world may feel louder.
For others, details stand out more vividly.
Some may communicate differently—but that doesn’t mean they have less to say.

🌍 It’s not about changing autistic individuals to fit the world.
✨ It’s about changing the world to be more understanding, patient, and inclusive.

This , let’s move beyond awareness. Let’s choose acceptance, respect, and inclusion.

💬 Because different perspectives don’t divide us, they make the world richer.

Expanding Access Through Assistive Technology

Over two days, 50 persons with visual impairment received Smart Vision Ultra glasses as part of Project Drishti, implemented under the CSR support of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) in collaboration with Blind Vision Foundation and SHG Technologies.

The distribution was organised at XRCVC, St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai on 13th March 2026, and the XRCVC – Lakeshore Mall Extension, Thane on 14th March 2026.

Participants also took part in hands-on training, exploring the features of the Smart Vision Ultra glasses—such as reading printed text, identifying objects, and navigating spaces more independently. The excitement and enthusiasm among participants as they experienced the technology highlighted the transformative impact that accessible innovations can have in everyday life.

We thank Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, SHG Technologies Pvt Ltd, and Blind Vision Foundation for their continued support in advancing accessibility and inclusion through assistive technology.

We were honoured to contribute to the 23rd batch of the “Management Training for Eye Care Programme Managers” at Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology (LAICO), under the Aravind Eye Care System.

Mr. Ketan Kothari led a session titled “ADVOCACY FOR EYE CARE” as part of the Advocacy Module, engaging about 13 Programme Managers from various countries.

The session focused on strengthening advocacy strategies within eye care programmes, and emphasised the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and ensuring that persons with disabilities are meaningfully included in healthcare systems.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share insights and learn alongside a global cohort committed to building more inclusive and equitable eye care services worldwide.

Thank you to the LAICO team for the collaboration.

✨ CKYC Awareness Workshop – Event Highlights ✨

On 14th February 2026, XRCVC successfully conducted a CKYC Awareness Workshop at the Seminar Room, First Quadrangle, St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.

The session was led by Ms. Vineeta Shetty, Managing Director – NSE India Sustainability Ratings and Analytics Ltd, who shared valuable insights on the Central KYC (CKYC) system and its recent updates.

Participants learned:
✔ How CKYC helps avoid repeated submission of KYC documents
✔ How disability details can now be recorded in CKYC
✔ How a single KYC update can reach multiple financial institutions
✔ How this step strengthens accessibility and inclusion in banking

The interactive discussion helped clarify doubts around finding, updating, and using CKYC effectively — especially for persons with disabilities and their families.

At XRCVC, we continue to work towards empowering persons with disabilities with information that promotes independence, dignity, and equal access. 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the session meaningful!
